Palomar Helps PowerBook Users "On the Road"

OCEANSIDE, California (Oct. 19)--The first product to ease the connectivity
headaches of PowerBook users on the road was introduced today.

The new software--appropriately named "On the Road"--automates common tasks
faced by anyone who takes their Apple Macintosh PowerBook portable
computer between work and home, or otherwise uses their PowerBook "on the
road". It is being offered by Palomar Software, a company known for
connectivity solutions for Macintosh printers, plotters and fax modems.

According to Al Bacon, the company's director of sales, the key to the
product's broadbased appeal is how it automatically provides deferred
connectivity for any PowerBook owner.

When writing letters, memos and trip reports at 30,000 feet, you use the
same print command as if your printer were on the plane with you. On the
Road quietly defers any printed output until you connect to a
network--either at work, home, or somewhere you've never been --and then
it automatically prints it on any available printer, while you attend to
other tasks.

Bacon predicted that the product would be particularly attractive to owners
of the PowerBook Duo 210 and 230 computers. When installed in the
Macintosh Duo Duo or MiniDock, On the Road automatically configures
connectivity settings specific to that site.

On the Road supports the Apple LaserWriter and StyleWriter printers,
networked printers from Hewlett-Packard and other major vendors, as well
as popular fax modems. It is designed to work with LocalTalk, EtherTalk
and AppleTalk Remote Access networks.

The software is compatible with all PowerBooks, including the 100, 140,
145, 160, 170, 180, 210 and 230; 2 Mb of RAM is required but 4 Mb is
recommended. On the Road takes advantage of AppleEvents, and thus requires
System 7 or later.

On the Road has a suggested list price of $99, and is scheduled to ship in
November 1992. The product will be sold in the United States through major
retailers, as well as mail-order vendors such as MacConnection. As with
all Palomar products, On the Road will be distributed in the U.S. by
Merisel; for information on international distributors, contact Palomar.

Palomar Software, Inc. is an independent software developer specializing in
Macintosh peripheral connectivity. Its driver technology has been licensed
