Enhanced PC-to-Host Emulators and LAN Gateway Provide TCP/IP
Interoperability while Eliminating Telnet Limitations.

LAGUNA HILLS, CA, October 19, 1992 -- SNA connectivity supplier Network
Software Associates, Inc. (NSA) substantially expanded Its
interoperability offerings today by unveiling Transmission Control
Protoco/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) connectivity capabilities for the
company's 3270 emulators for Windows and DOS, APPC software for Windows,
and their LAN gateway. The new links provide SNA PC-to-mainframe
connectivity over TCP/IP backbones, totally eliminating the limitations of
current 3270 implementations which use the TCP/IP Telnet standard.

TCP/IP link drivers have now been added to the following new versions of
the company's connectivity software:

* Version 2.2 of 3270/ElitePlus which provides 3270 emulation under DOS
(available for customer delivery on November 1 5).

* Version 3.4 of DynaComm/Elite which provides 3270 and APPC communications
under Microsoft Windows (available November 25).

* Version 4.4 of the AdaptSNA LAN Gateway which provides LAN-to-mainframe
communications for TokenRing, Ethernet and Arcnet LANs.

The new TCP/IP link drivers will be included as standard features of these
new versions at no additional charge. They all provide support for several
third-party TCP/IP protocol stacks, including Novell's LAN Workplace and
Sun's PC-NFS.

"The overriding strategy for many IS professionals today is the concept of
interoperability and open standards," said Zak Kong, NSA's president and
CEO. "The information access needs of SNA users and TCP/ IP users are
becoming one and the same, and organizations around the world are looking
for ways to interconnect these technologies into enterprise-wide
networks."

TELNET NUISANCES

Currently, most SNA 3270 mainframe access via TCP/IP networks are performed
through emulators that use the Telnet 3270 standard. However, these Telnet
3270 implementations are severely limited because:

* They do not provide 3270 printer emulation (LU1 nor LU3).
* They do not support various 3270 attributes and special keys
such as blinking, reverse video, System Request and Attention.
* They do not support IBM's NetView network management software.
* They do not support industry-standard IND$FILE file transfers.
* In most cases, they do not support a standard HLLAPI interface.
* They require a Telnet server application to Run on the
mainframe, which can be expensive to install and maintain.

"These limitations severely restrict the usability of Telnet 3270 for SNA
enterprise customers," said Russ Hertzberg, NSA's director of product
marketing. "In large heterogeneous networks, TCP/IP users running Telnet
3270 emulators do not get the same level of SNA services as other users
running more sophisticated 3270 emulators over 802.2 or SDLC links."

NSA CONNECTIONS

NSA now provides both client and server solutions for DOS and Windows-based
3270 emulation over TCP/IP without Telnet limitations, as well as
Windows-based APPC cooperative processing over TCP/IP. "Users get the same
level of SNA service regardless of how they connect to the mainframe,"
said Mr. Hertzberg.

In addition to terminal emulation (LU2), both 3270/ElitePlus and
DynaComm/Elite provide printer emulation support for DSC printers (LU3)
and SCS printers (LU1). They also provide full support of 3270 attributes
and special keys, industry-standard 3270 file transfer operations via
IBM's IND$FILE file transfer program, and IBM's High-Level Language
Application Programming Interface (HLLAPI).

NSA's emulators and gateway also provide end-to-end session performance
measurements via IBM's NetView response time mon-nor. Finally, they
totally eliminate the need to install and maintain Telnet server software
on the host.

3270/ElitePlus is priced at $395. DynaComm/Elite is priced at $495. Both
are available in network license versions. The AdaptSNA LAN Gateway ranges
from $595 to $3,995 depending on the number of PCs.

Network Software Associates, founded in 1980, develops, markets and
supports a wide range of PC software and hardware connectivity products
for IBM networking environments. Besides TCP/IP connectivity, NSA products
comes standard with a full set of drivers for complete link independent
operation, including Coax/DFT, SDLC, Async, X.25, NetBlOS, IPX/SPX and
802.2.
