Object Linking and Embedding Programmer's Reference, Version 1

Redmond, WA--October 9, 1992--Microsoft Press announced today the
publication of OBJECT LINKING AND EMBEDDING PROGRAMMER'S REFERENCE, the
first full documentation for Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) in
Microsoft Windows. This new book details the Windows 3.0 and 3.1
application programming interface (API) for experienced Windows
programmers developing or considering developing Windows-based OLE
applications.

Object Linking and Embedding is a powerful way to extend the functionality
of Windows-based applications--no application is complete without it.
Objects created in different applications graphs, spreadsheets, bitmaps,
charts, drawings, and sound annotation--can be combined into one document.
Rather than switching among different applications to edit the objects,
users can look at everything in the context of a single document and edit
by simply selecting the "object of interest," which in turn calls forward
the appropriate application.

OBJECT LINKING AND EMBEDDING PROGRAMMER'S REFERENCE--part of the Microsoft
Press Programmer's Reference Library--is both a tutorial and the
application programming interface reference for OLE. The first half of the
book lays the foundation for programming with OLE, explaining how to
implement OLE into client and server applications. The second half is a
comprehensive and detailed reference to such topics as callback functions
and data structures, dynamic link library (DLL) functions, the
registration database, and error codes. Other topics include:

* An explanation of OLE
* Special considerations for OLE applications
* The user interface that supports OLE
* How to document OLE applications for end users
* How to test an OLE application

A helpful glossary defines the terms that are specific to OLE, and a
comprehensive index helps readers quickly find information on any OLE
programming topic.

Other titles in the Programmer's Reference Library from Microsoft Press
include Microsoft Windows 3.1 Guide to Programming, Microsoft Windows 3.1
Programming Tools, the four-volume Microsoft Windows 3.1 Programmer's
Reference set, Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing, the two-volume
Microsoft Win32 Application Programming Interface, the three-volume
Microsoft Windows Multimedia Programmer's Reference, the Microsoft Mouse
Programmer's Reference, and the forthcoming Microsoft Excel 4 Software
Development Kit and The GUI Guide.
