LOTUS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION CHOOSES SYBASE AS CORPORATE STANDARD
DATABASE

SYBASE Products are Key Component to Support Lotus' Strategic Information
System

EMERYVILLE, CA, October 26, 1992 -- Sybase, Inc. today announced that Lotus
Development Corp. of Cambridge, MA has standardized on the SYBASE system
as its corporate-wide database architecture. The SYBASE system is used
throughout Lotus' operations to build a variety of client/server
applications such as sales, human resources, finance and executive
management systems. With the SYBASE system, Lotus has created an
integrated information strategy with a standard architecture.

Lotus also uses the SYBASE system at the core of its Lotus Information
System (LIS), a client/server, PC-based executive management system, which
is an integral part of Lotus' internal Working Together strategy. Working
Together helps provide groups of people who need to share information with
a consistent interface across different platforms. Efficiency is increased
by allowing users to move from a spreadsheet to a word processing document
without having to learn a different set of commands.

Sybase, Inc. develops and markets the SYBASE system, a leading
client/server-based relational database management system (RDBMS) product
family for developing on-line, enterprise-wide applications. Lotus has
been working closely with Sybase since 1989.

"We chose SYBASE because of its leadership in the client/server database
market," said Gene Cort, vice president of information systems and
support. "The fact that we have a strong and ongoing relationship with
Sybase has allowed us to combine our technologies to create applications
with visible productivity benefits throughout the company."

Mark Hoffman, president, chairman and chief executive officer of Sybase,
said, "We are excited that Lotus, one of the leading software vendors, has
standardized on SYBASE. We've worked closely with Lotus in the past, and
we are delighted that SYBASE plays an integral role in the Lotus Working
Together strategy."

Warehouses for Corporate-Wide Applications

Lotus stores its financial, sales, human resources and other
company-critical information from transaction-based systems in what it
calls "Sybase Database Warehouses." These warehouses create a common
corporate data repository on Digital VAX and PC-based servers, allowing
easy access from client/server applications. In addition, manufacturing,
forecasting and newswire information can be accessed through the Lotus
Information System from a number of Lotus Notes databases. Lotus Notes is
the company's open workgroup computing environment.

Lotus Information System

The Lotus Information System is a client/server, PC-based executive
information system that uses Microsoft SQL Server -- the SYBASE SQL Server
for OS/2 -- and Lotus Notes. The system provides more than 100 Lotus
executives with timely information on product sales, cost center expenses,
customer support calls, headcount and more. By using LIS, which was
designed with the same look and feel as the Lotus Windows product suite,
Lotus managers have easy access to key data in a familiar, consistent user
interface. In addition, the data retrieved in LIS can then be shared with
other Lotus products via the Windows clipboard for further analysis and
data sharing.

LIS allows, for example, a Lotus cost center manager to examine monthly
numbers by simply clicking on an icon, where organized rows of data appear
on the screen. Several layers of information are accessible in the SYBASE
database by double clicking on a specified row allowing a manager to
easily find information for a specific cost-center, copy it to the Windows
clipboard, and paste it into Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows for further analysis
and graphing, or into Lotus Notes for information sharing or e-mail.
