SAN DIEGO, September 14, 1992--Aldus Corporation today announced two new
libraries of Gallery Effects image-enhancement effects and version 1.5 of
the Aldus Gallery Effects application for the Apple Macintosh and
Microsoft Windows. The two new libraries are Gallery Effects: Classic Art,
Volume 2, and Gallery Effects: Texture Art. Developed by the Aldus
Consumer Division, the Gallery Effects collection is designed to let users
easily add visual impact to printed and electronic documents.

Multiple effects turn images into art

Each effect in a Gallery Effects library can be applied alone or with
others to turn scanned photographs and other bitmap images into
eye-catching artwork. Well-designed controls enable users to achieve
artistic results easily, reliably, and consistently. Customers can, for
example, apply effects to an entire image or selected areas, build effects
on top of others, and customize the effects for dozens of variations, then
save them for future use.

All effects are available as plug-in filters that users can apply from
within the Gallery Effects application or any other Macintosh or Windows
program that supports plug-in technology. These plug-ins enable users to
preview effects before applying them, providing convenient and powerful
image enhancement capabilities. All plug-ins appear as an integral part of
their host programs, which include Aldus PhotoStyler 1.1 and Fractal
Design Painter for Windows, and Adobe Photoshop, Aldus SuperPaint, Aldus
Digital Darkroom, Fractal Design Painter, Adobe Premiere, PixelPaint
Professional 2.0, ColorStudio 1.5, and StrataVision 3D 2.5 for the
Macintosh.

Gallery Effects: Classic Art, Volume 2

Aldus Gallery Effects: Classic Art, Volume 2 will continue in the artistic
tradition of Volume 1 supply a new library of painterly effects that
emphasize bold painting and drawing styles, as well as photographic
effects. The 16 new filters will be Accented Edges, Angled Strokes, Bas
Relief, Colored Pencil, Diffuse Glow, Glowing Edges, Grain, Note Paper,
Palette Knife, Patchwork, Photocopy, Rough Pastels, Sprayed Strokes,
Stamp, Texturizer, and Underpainting.

Gallery Effects: Texture Art

Aldus Gallery Effects: Texture Art will include 125 photograph-quality
textures in 12 categories-- Brick, Fabric, Gravel, Ground, Marble, Metal,
Plant, Shingle, Stone, Tile, Wall, and Wood. The Texture Art library is
being developed exclusively for Aldus by Pixar, creators of leading
photo-realilstic rendering software.

Unlike other competing products, Texture Art will automatically and
seamlessly tile a texture to any size or shape. Users will also be able to
import and apply their own images as tiles; the imported files can come
from other texture packages, PICT and TIFF files on the Macintosh, and TIF
and BMP files on Windows. Once applied, textured images will be adjustable
for brightness, contrast, and color balance for wide variations. Textures
can also be incorporated into presentations, published documents, or as
backgrounds for other enhanced images.

The textures in Texture Art will be provided in a compact, low-resolution
format (72 dpi, 8 bit) so they can be applied quickly. The package will
also include a CD-ROM of the 125 textures in both the low-resolution
format and a locked, high-resolution proprietary format (300 dpi, 24 bit).
An unlock code will be provided for one high-resolution texture; users
will be able to purchase additional codes for the other high-resolution
textures.

"With Gallery Effects: Texture Art, users will be able to enliven documents
for a variety of purposes-- graphic design, desktop publishing,
presentations, 3D graphics, multimedia, video, animation, architecture and
package design--with just the click of a button," said Maurice Rizzuto,
product manager for Gallery Effects. "The Gallery Effects product family
is becoming an 'instant art' solution that extends the
graphics-enhancement technology available to creative professionals and
non-designers."

Gallery Effects 1.5 update

With the introduction of the new effects volumes, Aldus is also updating
the application in the award winning Gallery Effects: Classic Art, Volume
1 package from version 1.0 to version 1.5. The updated version will
include enhancements to the Gallery Effects application for saving files
in 8-bit format as well as in the existing 24-bit format. The package will
also include sample effects from the Classic Ar Volume 2 and Texture Art
volumes.

Pricing and availability

Aldus Gallery Effects 1.5 will become the core application in the growing
family of effects. It will be available through Aldus resellers in the
fourth quarter of 1992 in the U.S. and Canada for a suggested retail price
