Captain Blackbeard version 3.00 is available now. I know many of you have
been waiting for the new version. It includes many features suggested by
you, the registered users of the product. The new features include:

Extension Configuration -- you can customize the editing environment based
on the file extension. For example, a file with a .C extension (containing
C code) could use the C.LNG language file; while a text file .TXT may want
word processing features enabled, such as word wrap. The configuration
(.CFG), key bindings, language file and macros can all be specified for a
particular extension. This makes it easy to have Captain Blackbeard switch
editing configurations for the type of file you are working on.

Bookmark functions -- have been expanded to include: Set Bookmark, Show
Bookmarks, Goto Next Bookmark, Goto Previous Bookmark, Change Bookmark,
and Delete Bookmark.

Abbreviation expand -- is now included in the language expansion facility.
When Abbreviation Expand is bound to the space key and the language file
has an expansion for BB to Blackbeard, then typing BB followed by space
will replace BB with Blackbeard. This makes it quick and easy to increase
typing speed and insert language templates.

Extended keyboard support -- such as Ctrl-up-arrow, F11 and F12. Note: Some
keyboards (international, in particular) do not return extended keyboard
information properly.

New/Updated file features -- proper timestamping of backup files. (version
2.66 did not retain the file date and time on the backup file. Backup
files are now restored and created with the proper date and time.); an
option to automatically create a new file if the specified file doesn't
exist; you can now force the display of the line terminator, typically a
CR and LF. This feature allows searching with positioning on "blank
lines", conversion of line terminators (e.g., UNIX expects only a LF); you
can also define the end of line terminator to use when inserting new
lines. This feature allows you to create UNIX compatible files, i.e.,
lines terminated with just a LF.

Binary file editing -- is supported in a limited fashion. In binary mode
lines are fixed length -- end of line characters are treated as normal
characters. Future versions may expand support if this is a useful
feature.

Blackbeard expands upon the popular programmer's text editor Blackbeard.
The following are just some outstanding features of Captain Blackbeard.

Built-in Documentation. Self-contained with built-in context-sensitive

64,000 lines and 32 megabytes. Windows can be resized and recolored. The
DOS window captures and permits DOS output editing.

Execute/Renew Processing. The Execute/Review windows provide an integrated
development environment. It will execute your compiler, save the errors in
a review file, and position the cursor at each error in the source code.
The compile/review window supports a large variety of computer products

SPYGLASS
Hypertext Development System
Current version 3.0

Spyglass is a hypertext style text delivery system. Spyglass is especially
useful for help systems, system documentation and text information with
built-in cross-references. Similar to the DOS and OS/2 on-line technical
reference guide engines. The primary features include quick B+ tree access
to topics, and nested topic expansion with local return. You can use
Spyglass in conjunction with Captain Blackbeard, on-line to provide access
to your own help for custom function definitions. Spyglass makes on-line
manuals a reality.

Registration Fee. Spyglass offers the user and developer the advantage of
non-profit free distribution. Non registered developers may freely
distribute the Spyglass engine. Registered developers may distribute both
the Spyglass engine and their compiled documentation. The only restriction
of distribution is if Spyglass developed documentation is redistributed
for profit. In that case, a for-profit redistribution license should be
obtained. For-profit fees are both inexpensive and flexible. You can
obtain the Spyglass engine and become a registered developer for only 25
dollars.

BLACKMAIL
Word Processor and dBase Merger
Current version 3.0

Blackmail is a simple to use merge program that works with dBase III and IV
database files. Blackmail's unique merge process allows it to accept most
word processing document formats. (In many cases, post processing
paragraph adjustment will be necessary.) Blackmail reads standard dBase
III and IV database files directly, no PRG files are required, and no copy
to delimited file dBase processing is needed. Blackmail only requires the
database and your word processing text to create its merge file.
WordPerfect 5.0 is now supported.

Registration Fee. You can become a registered Blackmail user for 25
dollars. You will receive the latest version with your registration.

SEXTANT
File Management System
Current version 1.0

Sextant is a file exploration and management utility. Sextant is the
program I use to keep track of all those files that seem to end up
scattered over my disk. Sextant allows you to find files; delete, copy and
move files; view the contents of files (binary & ASCII format); and launch
applications. Its primary advantages compared to other file management and
shell programs are its ease of use (user-oriented interface compared to
disk directory oriented interface) and its file oriented design. For
example, you can sort your files by filename while ignoring the directory
part of file. You can extended select files across directories and launch
a program that works on the marked set of files. You can also create
keystroke macros to perform tedious file operations. File find facilities
include wild card matching and file exclusion.

Registration Fee. You can become a registered Sextant user for 25 dollars.
You will receive the latest version with your registration.
