BEAVERTON, ORE.--Oct. 5,1992--Central Point Software, Inc. and Gateway 2000
today announced an expanded OEM agreement in which Gateway will bundle a
copy of Central Point's PC Tools Emergency Disk, Compress and RAMBoost
programs, as well as virus detection and cleaning capabilities with every
Gateway desktop personal computer distributed by Gateway.

As part of their "Cool Tools for DOS" promotion, Gateway, a leading direct
sales supplier of desktop and portable computers, has teamed up with
Central Point, a leading utility software vendor, to provide customers
with the industry standard in data protection. Beginning in October, all
Gateway desktop computers will be shipped with Central Point's Emergency
Disk, Compress and RAMBoost applications pre-installed.

"We are in the business of making available the best value possible for our
customers," said Ted Waitt, Gateway 2000 president and CEO. "By installing
these Central Point programs onto every desktop we sell, we are maximizing
customer value while reducing our support costs."

The programs to be included in this promotion are the same ones found in
Central Point's newest release of PC Tools 8.0, also announced today. With
the Emergency Disk, users can create their own personal emergency disk,
which contains comprehensive system information and all necessary PC
Tools' data recovery programs, including virus detection and cleaning.

Compress and RAMBoost also provide essential functions for data protection
and computing productivity. Compress optimizes a user's hard disk
performance by correcting file fragmentation and physically rearranging
files on the disk, improving disk-access speed and increasing the chance
of successful data recovery. RAMBoost improves the performance of an
existing memory manager by loading device drivers and TSRs into upper
memory. This capability expands the amount of space available in
conventional memory, which allows users to work more quickly with larger
applications.

"We are excited about our relationship with Gateway," said Charles M.
Boesenberg, president and CEO of Central Point Software. "Not only are we
able to work together to provide customers with an exceptional data
protection value, but this relationship provides an immediate payback in
support cost savings to Gateway's bottom line. This is definitely a
win-win arrangement."

Central Point and Gateway are also working together to provide customers
with additional offers. New Gateway owners will be able to take advantage
of special pricing for the full PC Tools 8.0 program, as well as Central
Point's Continuous Anti-Virus Protection (CAP) Service, which provides
customers a series of four anti-virus updates to keep virus detection and
cleaning capabilities as up to date as possible. Gateway will also offer
Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows, Central Point Backup for Windows,
Central Point Commute or the full PC Tools 8.0 program as optional value
packages available to their computer purchasers.

An additional agreement recently signed by the two companies provides the
bundling of the PC Tools Desktop accessories on all HandBook portable
computers distributed by Gateway. "This underscores Central Point's
commitment to the portable computing market," noted Boesenberg. "It is
clear that portable computer sales have increased significantly in the
last year, and our technology is perfectly suited to meet the increasing
mobile needs of today's computer users."
