Central Point Updates Anti-Virus for DOS

Adds Support for Continuous Virus Management, Combats Latest Viruses

BEAVERTON, Ore.--Oct. 12, 1992--In an aggressive assault on computer
viruses, Central Point Software, Inc. released an upgrade to Central Point
Anti-Virus for DOS. Not only has the new Version 1.4 of Central Point
Anti-Virus for DOS been upgraded to combat new viruses, but new features
have been added, including scheduled virus scans, centralized
installation, and the ability to update the desktop from a NetWare server.
And for the first time, DOS workstations running this new anti-virus
software can easily and transparently participate in Central Point's
Continuous Virus Management initiative, an enterprise-wide anti-virus
security system. Accordingly, Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS now
supports the new CentralTalk and CentralAlert technologies, allowing
DOS-based and Windows-based desktops and servers to communicate virus
management activities continuously with the new Central Point Anti-Virus
for NetWare, which was also announced today.

"With this new release, we are giving DOS users the latest in anti-virus
technology," said Tori Case, product marketing manager of anti-virus at
Central Point. "Virus perpetrators are working overtime to infect people's
computers, and we must do the same to prevent disasters. By incorporating
our new CentralTalk technology, DOS desktops can participate in
enterprise-wide virus management, a crucial step in protecting PC networks
large and small."

Support for CentralTalk and CentralAlert Links Desktops to Enterprise
Protection System

Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS includes support for CentralTalk and
CentralAlert technologies. CentralTaLk is Central Point's communications
protocol that allows desktops and servers in a NetWare 3.11 network to
communicate virus information throughout the PC enterprise. CentralAlert
utilizes CentralTalk to actively notify network administrators of virus
activity, via pages and/or e-mail, either locally or remotely.

Protection from Viruses Developed with "Virus Creation Laboratory"

Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS can detect and eliminate viruses created
using the "Virus Creation Laboratory," a virus development tool similar to
a software development kit that recently began to appear on bulletin
boards. In addition, Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS now detects more
than 1,300 known viruses. The product recognizes unknown as well as known
viruses, polymorphic (self-modifying) viruses, and stealth
(self-concealing) viruses. Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS continues to
be the only anti-virus product to clean as well as detect mutation engine
viruses.

Centralized Installation Features Support Individual and Network Needs

Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS now allows virus scanning to be scheduled
according to individual needs. Scanning may be set to occur periodically
or at specified dates and times. Files can also be scanned on demand.

In addition, when installed on a network, Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS
now provides easy anti-virus configuration and virus signature updates for
clients running it on the desktop. When configured in this manner, Central
Point Anti-Virus for DOS automatically downloads any new virus signature
updates and updated program files to clients when they log onto the
network.
