DELL INTRODUCES FOUR NEW 66-MEGAHERTZ PERSONAL COMPUTERS

-- One of the first to ship PCs based on the new microprocessor

AUSTIN, Texas, August 10, 1992 -- As part of its ongoing commitment to
provide PC users with a full range of high-performance computing
solutions, Dell Computer Corporation today announced four upgradeable
personal computers based on Intel's new 66-megahertz (MHz) i486 DX2
microprocessor. The new microprocessor, introduced today by Intel, uses
speed-doubler technology to deliver more than 25 percent higher processing
speeds than the i486 DX/50MHz microprocessor, which previously offered the
highest level of computing power available for PCs. Dell's new systems
are available immediately and are among the first 66MHz systems to ship to
customers.

The company also announced today that its 486-based ISA (Industry Standard
Architecture) systems now feature an improved video subsystem that is
designed to more than double video performance under the Microsoft Windows
operating environment.

The new low-profile Dell System 486P/66 and mid-size 486D/66 add to Dell's
Performance Series families of upgradeable 486 desktop PCs based on the
ISA bus. Targeted for mainstream business users, the new systems offer
the advantages of unbeatable processor performance and advanced system
features, but are aggressively priced only $200 higher than comparable
configurations of i486 DX2 50MHz-based Dell systems.

Dell also added two 66MHz systems to its family of EISA-based (Extended
Industry Standard Architecture) systems. The new 466DE and 466SE are
targeted for users who require the flexibility and performance of the
32-bit EISA bus. The 66MHz EISA-based systems will offer power users a
compelling value, with prices that are $100 lower than comparably
configured 50MHz i486 DX-based Dell systems.

Dell's new 66MHz systems, along with existing systems in the 486P and 486D
families, now feature an enhanced video subsystem using the Western
Digital 90C31 controller. The improved video capabilities allow for a
more than 100 percent gain in video performance under Microsoft Windows.
Today's move to offer increased video capabilities for its systems
parallels an action the company took last month, when it began offering
its EISA-based 486DX desktops with the ATI Ultra graphics accelerator
board factory-installed as a standard feature.

Below are examples of system prices for popular configurations.

        System Configuration * Price
                      (RAM/HD/Display)
        486P/66 4MB/120MB/SVGA 1024i $2,499
        486P/66 8MB/230MB/UltraScan 14C $2,999
        486D/66 8MB/230MB/UltraScan 14C $3,249
        466DE 8MB/230MB/UltraScan 15FS $3,899
        466SE 8MB/320MB/UltraScan 15FS $5,449

* Configurations include one diskette drive and DOS 5.0 pre- installed.

"We're pleased to be one of the first PC manufacturers to offer this new
technology to our customers," said Joel J. Kocher, senior vice president
of Dell USA. "The efficiency of our development, manufacturing and
marketing teams and our strategic relationship with Intel enable us to
respond quickly with systems using the latest processor technology."

The new PCs come with Dell's widely acclaimed, comprehensive service and
support program for its Performance Series of systems, which includes
unlimited toll-free technical support and guaranteed next-business day,
on-site service through Dell's alliance with BancTec Service Corp. A
variety of other service and support options, such as 2- and 4-hour
on-site response capability, are also offered with Dell Performance Series
systems.
