August 3, 1992 -- Austin, TX - National Instruments announced today an
addition to its executive staff to prepare the company for meeting
criteria of ISO 9000 certification. On July 22, the National Instruments
Board of Directors approved the establishment of an executive officer to
emphasize quality throughout company operations and manage its effort to
secure ISO 9000 certification by late 1993.

William Nowlin, a founder of the company and recently vice president of
engineering, was appointed to the new position of chief quality officer.
Jack MacCrisken was promoted to vice president of engineering. Nowlin has
overall responsibility for coordinating and providing leadership for all
activities of the quality system. He also has direct authority and
responsibility for ensuring that the requirements of ISO 9000 are
implemented and maintained throughout the company. MacCrisken oversees all
hardware and software engineering operations of the company. Both Nowlin
and MacCrisken report directly to Dr. James Truchard, president and CEO.

The Importance of Quality

"Technology companies in the 1990s must dedicate themselves to quality
throughout the organization, in product design, manufacturing,
distribution, and technical support," noted Truchard today in a
company-wide meeting at corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas. "To do
this, we must set up a structure where quality is imbued in our products
at every stage of development, and most importantly, delivered to our
customers. This new organizational structure, which was designed to be
compatible with the guidelines from the ISO 9000 standards, will assure
that we strive to achieve our very best, and deliver products and service
of unequaled quality to our customers."

ISO 9000 is a series of international standards for total quality
management. Certification assures customers of an "operating" quality
management system. The standards are used to judge how well a business is
run in delivering a consistent quality product, and deals with all aspects
of the business, including how well quality is controlled, managed, and
improved.

"Our continued growth in international sales, especially in Europe, has
made ISO 9000 certification a must to achieve our corporate goals,"
continued Truchard. "We have a very strong, energetic team, which will
allow us to continue to grow, all the while maintaining the highest
possible quality standards."
