August 1, 1992 -- I-Concepts, Inc. of Dallas, Texas has announced the
release of the PCC line of intelligent serial communications cards that
are compatible with a variety of operating systems. The cards are
available in 8 and 16 port versions.

Both models in the PCC product line incorporate "front-end processor"
technology to greatly increase data throughput by employing an on-board 16
MHz. 80186 processor and 512 Kbytes of dual-ported RAM. The PCC series
reduces host processor loading by handling all serial communications,
allowing the host processor to concentrate its efforts on executing
software applications. Only 8 Kbytes of host memory are required by each
PCC card, and no host interrupts are utilized.

Supported operating systems include Unix V.3 and V.4, SCO Unix, AIX, AT&T
Unix System V, Interactive Unix, SCO Xenix, OS/2, DR Multi-user DOS, CDOS,
PC-MOS, and OS-9000. Software drivers for all operating systems are
available, along with a user manual and a diagnostic self-test diskette.

Ron Moore, Vice President of Development for I-Concepts commented, "What
sets the PCC series apart is the way it handles serial I/O. The PCC series
provides 'communications management,' with its coprocessor and RAM
removing the communications burden from the main processor. The screen
handling and use of the intelligence contained on the card differs from
competitive boards, providing what we consider demonstrably better
performance."

The PCC Series incorporates surge protection on each port to prevent damage
to the circuit board and attached peripherals. All I/O ports are
individually configurable up to 76.8 Kbps, and serial connections are made
via 9-pin "D" connectors on an external distribution box. Each card
occupies a single expansion slot inside the host CPU.

Both the PCC/8 and PCC/16 support serial printers, various communications
devices, and all ASCII/ ANSI terminals. PC's may also be used as remote
terminals or local workstations running independent applications.

The ISA cards are priced at $1,295 for 8 ports and $1,895 for 16 ports. The
MCA versions are priced at $1,350 and $1,995. For more information,
