NovaNet is a revolutionary new wide-area networking solution, offered as
part of ResNova Software's NovaLink Professional 2.1. It is one of many
new features offered by this powerful new release of ResNova's information
server/BBS software. NovaNet offers sharing of files and messages through
a hierarchical network structure which is administered by ResNova.

NovaNet is based on a hierarchy of network nodes. Each server has a
supervisor-a node directly above it in the hierarchy-which the server
calls at specified intervals to exchange information. The nodes exchange
electronic mail, public messages, and files. Then, the supervisor passes
the information on to a network hub, which distributes it to other points
on the network. In this way, messages from a server may be shared with
other servers worldwide, with only one phone call to one other server.
This makes sharing information much simpler than implementations which
require a call to every server one wishes to share information with.

Sending electronic mail over NovaNet is simple. A user on one server can
send a message or file to a user on another NovaNet server by specifying
both the user name and server name in the address. The server does not
have to call the targeted server, because the message will automatically
be passed through the network to its destination. Public message forums
and file libraries can also be shared over NovaNet. One server is
designated as the "master" node for a particular forum or library. In
general, the server which starts the forum or library will be its master.
All other servers which use that forum or library pass their messages
through the network to the master node. The master node, in turn,
distributes all of the messages to the other servers.

Another important feature of NovaNet is the professional management
provided by ResNova Software. ResNova maintains network hubs which act as
centers of distribution. ResNova also registers all NovaNet nodes and
distributes an updated list of NovaNet nodes to all servers. Companies
which have more than one server can create their own private networks
using the NovaNet system, allowing cross-country or worldwide corporate
communication.

Thus it is now possible for users on a server to communicate with people
around the world, with only a local phone call. It makes wide-area
networking easy to use, because of the automated structure of the network
and the management provided by ResNova Software.
