KRON VIDEO ENTERPRISES AND SCHOLASTIC INC. TEAM UP TO BRING CUTTING EDGE
TECHNOLOGIES INTO THE CLASSROOM

New line of educational videodiscs will carry Richard Hart's "Next Step"
High Tech Reports into schools, with up to date information and insights
on emerging technologies.

July 29, 1992 - New York, New York - If young people are to compete in an
increasingly technological world, they need an education in emerging
technologies first. Yet the classroom is usually the last place to receive
word about what's happening in the world of high tech.

Today, KRON Video Enterprises and Scholastic Inc., announced an agreement
that could change all that. The two companies will work together to
distribute Richard Hart's "Next Step" High Tech Reports to the educational
market using the medium of interactive video discs.

The Next Step series is hosted by Richard Hart, an Emmy-award winning
producer and writer, and the nation's only full-time high tech reporter.
The series includes nearly 100 fast-paced stories, each outlining an
emerging technology or research development in exciting, enlightening
detail. Whether he's flying weightless in an experimental aircraft or
walking through his own miniature video game, Hart has a talent for
simplifying complex concepts, visualizing abstract ideas, and helping
young people understand the human side of science. About the plans to
distribute the Next Step series in schools, Hart said, "I love this
because it's a chance for me to show kids that it's cool to be a
scientist. It's an opportunity to hook them early with the hottest, latest
stuff."

Scholastic, one of the nation's largest publishers and distributors of
children's books and educational materials, will deliver the Next Step
series to teachers and classrooms on a series of at least three
interactive videodisc volumes. Designed for student in grades 4 through
12, the series will be organized into three broad areas, containing
approximately 30 segments apiece.

* Volume 1: Technologies and the Natural World, will include segments on
biotechnology, health, food, environment, and the latest developments in
technology for the disabled.

* Volume 2: Technology and the Information Age, will cover computers,
video, audio, robots, and household technologies.

* Volume 3: Technology and the Physical World, will include segments on
energy, aerospace, transportation, materials, and the military.

Each volume will include a teacher's guide, with questions and activities
that make the material easy to fit into the daily curriculum. "This
alliance is a natural extension of our efforts to bring into the classroom
multi-media materials that truly help teachers," said Margery Mayer,
Executive Vice President of the Instructional Publishing Group of
Scholastic Inc. "The High Tech Report will help teachers communicate basic
science principles in a new, exciting way."

Richard Fisher, Director of KRON-TV Video Enterprises, sees the partnership
with Scholastic as "the logical next step for Next Step. The educational
benefits of this series have long been evident in the response to the
reports on KRON. Making the product available directly to schools makes
perfect sense." The Next Step series is also slated to premier this fall
as a weekly, half-hour prime time series on The Discovery Channel and on
KRON.

KRON Video Enterprises is an operating unit of KRON-TV, the NBC affiliate
San Francisco, owned by Chronicle Broadcasting of San Francisco. KRON
