July 1, 1992 - London, England - Advanced PC Products, Ltd. of Hampshire,
England has won the "Most Innovative Application" award given by Comdef, a
European VAR organization. The judges chose APCP's Thamesport system
designed specifically for Maritime Transport Services in a hotly contested
category. Thamesport is the United Kingdom's newest seaport, located on
the Thames river outside of London and handles thousands of freight
movement transactions per day.

The Thamesport system was written entirely in Speedbase, a fourth
generation programming language, while also including direct integration
with the Global 3000 line of accounting software (also written in
Speedbase). The system controls the entire container handling process,
from reception of trucks at the gates, through to loading of the
containers onto shipping vessels. Ten 386 and 486 computers are networked
via Arcnet, and these computers drive over 200 fixed terminals, numerous
swipe card readers, radio data transmitters, port-side data capture units,
modems for communications links, remote cameras, printers, and possibly
the largest PC peripherals yet seen - eighteen 250-ton robot cranes for
stacking and unstacking containers.

The Thamesport system also features comprehensive external communications
links, including telex and fax messaging, EDI links to customer's computer
systems, plus on-line links to various governmental agencies such as
Customs and Excise and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. In
addition, the system provides links to other overseas ports, banks and
insurance companies.

APCP' Managing Director Phil Chapman expressed his delight at receiving the
award which was announced at the Comdef '92 Reseller Forum. "The
Thamesport project was a real challenge, and I'm pleased that the
achievements in the VAR channel are being recognized. I'm also delighted
that we chose the Speedbase/Global 3000 route over the other fourth
generation languages we considered. Like any other VAR, we need to develop
applications rapidly, and we also want to address a variety of platforms.
I don't think there's a toolset on the market to beat Speedbase in the
reseller environment."
