Maitland, Florida - Distributed Processing Technology (DPT), the leading
manufacturer of high-performance peripheral controllers, is announcing a
joint development relationship with Univel to provide high-performance
Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) software support for the UnixWare
operating system. This development effort ensures that when UnixWare
becomes available, users will be able to choose from a wide variety of
SCSI peripherals, including hard disk, tape, and CD-ROM drives. DPT's
SmartCache Plus ISA and EISA SCSI controllers are supported. Univel plans
to bundle the SCSI software with its UnixWare operating system.

DPT support already provided In Early Access Program

Since support for SCSI peripheral devices is a vital part of the operating
system, the companies began development of the SCSI interface software
several months ago. The early completion of that work has enabled Univel
to bundle the SCSI software into the operating system being shipped to
hardware and software developers who are participating in Univel's Early
Access Program. Support for industry standard peripherals, such as the DPT
SCSI controllers, is part of Univel's strategy to provide developers with
all the tools necessary for the timely and successful release of
UnixWare-ready products.

DPT has worked closely with Univel to optimize mass storage performance,
compatibility and functionality. Performance enhancing features such as
support for concurrent I/O processing, which allows multiple read and
write requests to be processed simultaneously; scatter/gather data
transfer, which increases data throughput; and support for hardware-based
disk caching and disk mirroring have been added.

With the support of major independent software vendors and hardware vendors
like DPT, Univel will provide end users with access to a wide variety of
mainstream software and hardware solutions for UnixWare. UnixWare will
bring the power of UNIX to the end user, so they can run productivity,
custom and semi-custom applications on industry standard hardware with
seamless integration to NetWare, as well as existing UNIX networks.

"Input from our OEM partners leads us to believe Univel is going to become
very successful with UnixWare," says DPT president Steve Goldman. "Because
UnixWare has so much potential, we're very excited about this new
opportunity, not just for ourselves, but for our OEMs and resellers as
well."

"DPT completes the picture for UnixWare", says Univel president and CEO
Joel Appelbaum. "The disk performance and SCSI connectivity that DPT
provides allows UnixWare to tap the processing power of the Intel
platform. The combination of Univel and DPT demonstrates our commitment to
provide a comprehensive solution of today's leading peripheral devices for
the open systems environment."

DPT Product Information

DPT currently manufactures the fastest SCSI controllers in the marketplace.
It's most popular controller is the SmartCache Plus cache-convertible
controller. It is the only SCSI controller on the market which can be
configured as both a non-caching and a caching controller. The
entry-level-priced, non-caching configuration is converted to a high-end
caching controller by simply adding DPT's unique plug-on caching module
and up to 16 megabytes of cache RAM to the base controller. An add-on
mirroring module adds support for a software independent array of mirrored
drives. This scalable architecture provides manufacturers and integrators
a complete range of price/performance options, suitable for systems
ranging from standalone workstations and small networks up to
multi-processor-equipped file servers.

Its scalable architecture, price/performance superiority and industry
standard compatibility have made SmartCache Plus EISA the most popular
choice for manufacturers and resellers alike. Computer manufacturers such
as AST, NEC, NCR, Intel, Wyse, Wang, and Siemens have standardized on
SmartCache Plus. It is widely available from distributors such as Tech
Data, Ingram Micro, Merisel, Robec and Gates/FA.

DPT is a privately held company founded in 1977. Corporate headquarters are
near Orlando, Florida with European sales offices located in Milton Keynes
(London), England and Penzberg (Munich), Germany. DPT manufactures
intelligent, high-performance peripheral controllers for mini- and
microcomputer markets. DPT's technology innovations include the first
caching disk controller for the PC, the first software-independent RAID
solution for the PC and the first cache-convertible controller for the PC.
DPT controllers are sold worldwide through a network of major distributors
and OEMs.

UNIVEL, founded in December of 1991, is a partnership between Novell, Inc.
and UNIX system Laboratories, Inc. The company is chartered with growing
the UNIX system and network computing market by providing open system
software solutions for distributed enterprise-wide computing. Univel's
UnixWare family of products will incorporate the most powerful UNIX
operating system available today, seamless integration to NetWare and a
graphical user interface which allows access to the broadest range of
applications.
