NEW SERIAL PORT EXPANDER ENABLES MULTIPLE PERIPHERAL SELECTION FROM PC
KEYBOARD

IRVINE, CA -- June 1, 1992 -- Western Telematic Inc. (WTI) today introduced
a new serial-port expander/data switch called QwikSwitch. With this new
device, a user can instantly increase the number of serial (COM) ports on
their PC or laptop to five, without the hassle of installing internal
boards or selecting various interrupt addresses. QwikSwitch also enables a
user to have instant access to any connected peripheral.

QwikSwitch features any-to-any port connections. Any PC can access any
other PC or device. Data transfer rates can be as high as 115K baud, which
make it an attractive and inexpensive device for PC-to-PC file transfer.

Users can direct data to any of the five devices, and each can be selected
right from their keyboard. QwikSwitch comes with a utility disk containing
several software programs. There is easy-to-use port-select software that
enables the user to select any port either from within Microsoft Windows,
or a memory resident DOS (TSR) pop-up menu. Each port can be assigned
names for function or convenience, and status messages can be displayed.

The software also enables the user to enter a simple command typed at the
DOS prompt to select the required Port. This command can even be included
in a batch file that will select the desired port every time the program
is run. Or QwikSwitch enables a text string to be easily embedded directly
into any popular program language and application. The string can be added
to a printer set-up, text or program itself, and will make the port
selection automatically. Other programs include a PC accelerator that
enables QwikSwitch to operate at 115K baud, and a file-transfer program.

QwikSwitch is designed for quick and simple installation. It employs
inexpensive RJ-11 telephone-style, snap-in cables and modular RJ-11
adapters, both which are available from WTI. The user simply connects
QwikSwitch to their PC's existing COM port and selected devices.
QwikSwitch's small footprint, just 1" x 4" x 7" makes mounting easy and
out-of-the-way.

Up to five devices such as other PCs, laptops, printers, modems, or any
RS-232 device can be attached to the QwikSwitch. If there is a most
frequently used device, QwikSwitch will default to that port whenever the
unit is powered up, or disconnection is made from another port. There is
also a no-activity time-out that will default to the common port when
there is no activity.

"People never seem to have enough serial ports on their PC, but adding them
has always been an involved and cumbersome process.", stated company
president David L. Morrison. "QwikSwitch is a simple and inexpensive way,
not only to add serial ports, but to give a user fast and easy access to
multiple RS-232 peripherals"

The suggested retail price for QwikSwitch is $175.00 and will be available
at the end of June 1992 from Western Telematic.
