Microsoft Pre-Releases Win32 API Specifications
Software Developers Get Head Start on 32-Bit Windows-based Applications
with New Books from Microsoft Press

As part of the Open Process forum, Microsoft Corporation has announced the
release of detailed programming information on the Microsoft Win32'
application programming interface in the Microsoft WIN32 APPLICATION
PROGRAMMING INTERFACE: THE PROGRAMMER'S REFERENCE from Microsoft Press.

Win32 is the new Microsoft Windows 32-bit application programming interface
(API) supported by the Windows NT' operating system. Available to users
later this year, Windows NT will offer the same user interface as Windows
and will have the ability to run all existing applications for the
Microsoft Windows and MS-DOS operating systems. Windows NT will offer
advanced operating system features needed for specialized applications,
high-performance networks, and advanced workstations.

Published in two volumes, the MICROSOFT WIN32 APPLICATION PROGRAMMING
INTERFACE: THE PROGRAMMER'S REFERENCE contains essential information on
the 32-bit API. Volume 1 contains overview information, the Guide to
Programming, and the alphabetical API reference from A-G. Volume 2
completes the API reference from H-Z and includes information on Dynamic
Data Exchange (DDE) transaction types; system messages, notifications,
structures, and types; and macros.

"Studying the Win32 spec will help developers plan and design new 32-bit
applications for Windows in advance of the Software Development Kit for
Windows NT," said Cameron Myhrvold, director of developer relations at
Microsoft. "Microsoft wants to let developers know what to anticipate, so
they can be prepared to take the best advantage of the opportunities the
Win32 API in Windows NT will offer."

A postage-paid registration card in the back of volume 1 enables customers
to qualify for special discounts on the Microsoft Win32 Software
Development Kit and on updated editions of volumes 1 and 2 of the
MICROSOFT WIN32 APPLICATION PROGRAMMING INTERFACE: THE PROGRAMMER'S
REFERENCE.

Microsoft Corporation's Open Process invites leading commercial software
developers to participate in the design and refinement of Microsoft
operating systems. By previewing design specifications long before they
are finalized, developers instigate changes in the operating system which
help them build better applications, and more effectively plan for the use
of Microsoft innovations in their products.
