IBM INTRODUCES NEW MULTIMEDIA FOR VALUEPOINT SERIES, EXPANDS ULTIMEDIA
OFFERINGS TO PS/VALUEPOINT DESKTOP MODELS

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 24, 1993 . . . IBM today continued the expansion of
IBM's Ultimedia family of products with the new Multimedia for
PS/ValuePoint (MVP) Series of personal computers.

"Today's announcement reaffirms IBM's commitment to incorporating
multimedia across all platforms and products," said Steven L. Raber,
director of multimedia marketing for IBM. "The products introduced today
provide customers with a choice of systems targeted to their individual
needs. The three basic versions of the MVP Series -- Office, Reference and
Entertainment -- provide customers with the choice of up to 30 customized
systems."

"The announcement of the Multimedia for ValuePoint Series is another step
in the expansion of the ValuePoint family into new markets," said Angelica
P. Horaitis, director of value brands, IBM PC Company -- North America.
"These new offerings provide customers with new levels of capability at
competitive prices."

The MVP Series builds integrated, rich and easy-to-use multimedia function
across the IBM PS/ValuePoint line, taking advantage of PS/ValuePoint's
fast graphics, true color capability, disk capacity and processor
upgradeability, making it an ideal platform for multimedia. The flexible
MVP Series enables customers to select the processor, storage and display
options that best meet their needs. Evolution of the technology used in
these systems has resulted in lower prices with increased function,
placing MVP systems within the reach of many customers. System prices
start at $2,099, including display, and go to $3,499 for the most fully
configured system.

All Entertainment and Reference MVP Series systems offer DOS and Windows,
the 16-bit Creative Labs' Sound Blaster 16 audio card, external speakers,
microphone, mouse cables and a double speed multisession, XA capable CD
ROM drive. Kodak's Photo CD Access software and sampler will be included
in the Reference and Entertainment models to take advantage of the
multisession CD capabilities of those systems. "Kodak is excited that two
high-quality products, our Kodak Photo-CD Access software and the IBM
Multimedia ValuePoint, are being integrated to provide a high-quality
offering to our customers," said Georgia McCabe, director, Worldwide
Commercial CD Imaging, CD Imaging Division of Kodak.

The Multimedia ValuePoint Series takes full advantage of 16-bit audio and
the latest double speed multisession CD ROM drives. The offerings range
from 486SX 25 megahertz (MHz) with 120 megabyte hard files to 486DX2 33/66
MHz with 340 MB hard files. This range of performance can deliver the full
spectrum of integrated solutions to a wide variety of users with different
application needs.

Creative Labs President, Ed Esber said, "We at Creative Labs are delighted
that IBM, one of the leaders in the PC multimedia industry, has decided to
provide compelling multimedia solutions by integrating Sound Blaster 16 on
the popular PS/ValuePoint systems."

All MVP systems meet or exceed the Multimedia Personal Computer Marketing
Council's specification, and those with hard files of 160 MB or larger are
some of the first to comply with the newly announced MPC Level 2. The key
components of this enhanced specification are: 486 processor 25MHz
minimum, 4 MB RAM, 160 MB hardfile, 16-bit audio, 640 X 480 64K color
video support, WINDOWS 3.1 compatibility and CD-ROM drives with the
following: 300 kb/sec sustained data transfer rate, multisession, XA
capable.

These configurations will be available June 22 in all ValuePoint channels,
including IBM Business Partners and IBM PC Direct (1-800-426-2968). They
also will be included in the expanded IBM Catalog and the IBM Multimedia
Information Center at (1-800-426-9402).
