Microtek Introduces Scan-in-Dex
Business card scanner and file management system

June 14, 1993, Torrance, CA--Microtek will announce at PC EXPO, June 29,
1993 in New York the Microtek Scan-in-Dex, its Business Card Scanning
System. As a business card scanner and basic file management system,
Scan-in-Dex can export its data to leading personal information management
systems.

Features and Capabilities

The Microtek Scan-in-Dex creates 400 dpi black and white images of business
cards. The fully automatic and integrated Scan-in-Dex software then
converts the card data from images to machine readable text. Given the 400
dpi resolution, this optical character recognition function is generally
more accurate than typical OCR for smaller type sizes associated with
business cards.

Finally, the resulting character data is identified by artificial
intelligence and is then placed in distinct data fields including company
name, contact's name and title, address, city, state, zip, phone, fax and
country. The Microtek Scan-in-Dex lets the user decide whether to store
the scanned image or only the converted text. Once stored, the system
provides a basic search function for all data fields. The software also
allows the data it captures from the business card to be exported into
leading personal information management applications such as Lotus
Organizer, Packrat from Polaris or ACT from Contact Software.

The complete process takes about 15 seconds. A scrolling electronic notepad
is included that allows the user to store additional information about the
contact person in the same way notes might be taken on the back of a
business card. With dimensions of 6.65" x 6" x 2.1" (WxDxH), the Microtek
Scan-in-Dex is lightweight, approximately 1.65 pounds, portable and small
enough to fit on any desktop.

"For the first time business people are presented with a better alternative
to managing business cards. Card files or manually key stroking have
finally given way to a meaningful scanning technology," said S.C. Lee,
president of Microtek Lab, Inc.

The Complete Business Solution

In spite of all the new technology available today, the average person
still relies on cumbersome methods to store business contact information -
manually entering data into a contact organizer, typing the information
into a contact management software program or storing business cards in
card files or rolodex systems. Scan-in-Dex provides a complete business
solution for people who collect a significant number of business cards,
and do not have the time or resources to record the information. The
Microtek Scan-in-Dex makes it realistic for people to create an electronic
business card file on their computer.

System Requirements

Scan-in-Dex requires an IBM PC/AT 386, 486 or compatible system with one
available card slot, a VGA or super VGA display, 4 megabytes of memory and
Microsoft Windows 3.1.

Pricing and Availability

Scan-in-Dex will begin shipping in mid to late July and will retail for
$399. Scan-in-Dex will be available through Microtek's authorized
distributors and dealers throughout the country.
