SAS Institute Shipping Beta Release for Windows NT

CARY, NC (June 29, 1993)--SAS Institute announced today that it is shipping
the beta release of the SAS System--the world's leading information
delivery system--that supports Microsoft's Windows NT operating system to
select customers in the U.S. and Canada.

Scheduled for production availability later this year, the SAS System for
Windows NT exploits all the features of the 32-bit operating system. In
addition, the release features two new components of the SAS System for
Information Delivery and enhances the software's client/server
capabilities.

The SAS System for Windows NT currently supports Intel based platforms and
fully exploits the 32-bit processing power of the operating system. In
addition, the new release supports multitasking, the ability to run
multiple applications simultaneously.

In addition, the new release includes two new SAS System components--
SAS/IMAGE software, an image processing product that allows users to
store, access, manage, manipulate and display many types of images--and
SAS/GIS

software, which combines a geographic information system with display and
analysis of spatially related data. These new products extend the SAS
System's primary functions of accessing, managing, analysing and
presenting data to include the manipulation of image and spatial data.

The SAS System for Windows NT also enhances the software ' s client/ server
strategy by expanding server-side support to include Open Systems, OS/2
2.0 and Windows NT. "By providing server support for Windows NT, we now
have all the major server environments covered," said Jon Flaherty,
Workstations Marketing Manager for SAS Institute. "This better enables
organizations to gain access to corporate data stored on host resources
and deliver information throughout their computing environment."

Flaherty explained that the SAS System will be shipped soon after the
Windows NT operating system is production and will be one of the first
application systems available. ''For customers who have standardized to
Windows in their organizations, Windows NT will provide a more robust
environment for running their SAS applications. They will have all the
advantages of the Windows graphical user interface in addition to the
power and speed of the industry' s leading information delivery system in
a premier desktop environment."

The first year license fee for the SAS System for Windows NT will begin at
$895. Renewals will begin at $695 and discounts up to 96 percent are
available for educational institutions. For personal computers, the SAS
System is currently available under Windows 3.1, OS/2 2.0 and DOS.

The SAS System--an integrated suite of software products for
enterprise-wide information delivery--provides organizations with tools to
access, manage, analyze and present their data within an applications
development environment. Capabilities within the SAS System include EIS,
spreadsheets, graphics, data analysis, report writing, quality
improvement, project management, computer performance evaluation,
client/server computing, database access, decision support, applications
development and more. More than 3 million users at 25,000 businesses,
universities and government agencies worldwide are using SAS software
products.

Headquartered in Cary, NC, privately-held SAS Institute Inc. is among the
world' s largest independent software companies. Since its incorporation
in 1976, SAS Institute has consistently led the major software vendors in
percentage of revenue devoted to research and development (35 percent in
1992, or $128 million of its $365.5 million total revenue).
