HSC Software Announces Kai's Power Tools for Windows

May 24, 1993 -- SANTA MONICA, CA--HSC Software today announced that Kai's
Power Tools (KPT), the popular and highly acclaimed plug-in filters and
generators for the Macintosh versions of Adobe Photoshop and Fractal
Design Painter, will soon be available for Windows.

KPT for Windows includes 33 powerful generators and filter plug-ins and
will significantly expand the capabilities of all the leading Windows
image manipulation programs, including Adobe Photoshop, Fractal Design
Painter, Aldus Photostyler and Micrographx Designer. KPT's advanced user
interface design simplifies extremely complex channel operation procedures
such as multichannel masking and gradient design. Users can select from a
variety of user interface designs.

"Kai's Power Tools provides the graphic arts, printing, photography, video
and multimedia creator with tools they simply should not be without," said
Jeff Parker, Adobe Photoshop Product Manager. "KPT is a landmark third
party plug-in, establishing new standards in user interface design,
functionality and features. Adobe Photoshop and HSC's KPT together are a
creative explosion!"

"We are extremely pleased to bring the smash success of Kai's Power Tools
on the Macintosh platform to the millions of Windows users around the
world," said John Wilczak, President and CEO of HSC Software. "The Windows
platform has dramatically increased in popularity among graphic artists
and cross-platform compatibility has become essential for productivity in
today's environment."

KPT includes 33 new, powerful creation tools.

The Texture Explorer allows users to generate a virtually unlimited
selection of textures, backgrounds, and materials which can be applied to
images directly within Adobe Photoshop. It goes far beyond the traditional
textures such as marble, wood, and cloth, reducing disk space requirements
by saving algorithms rather than bitmaps. The product ships with nearly
200 presets and makes possible the creation of complex unprecedented
blends and textures available in no other software product.

The Gradient Designer allows up to 500 colors at any one time, has 16
combinations of mode and looping control, opacity as an independent alpha
channel, and the ability to blend to no color. The Gradient Designer
includes a new standard of color picking technology, including multiple
palettes, translucency, etc.

The Gradient Path tool provides image effects that are impossible with
traditional methods. The Gradient Path tool also illustrates another
powerful feature of KPT, the interconnectivity and "Lego block" structure
of the tools. This tool subscribes to the presets created in the Gradient
Designer, allowing two blends, one for color and one as an alpha channel
to fade in and out and blend with the original image in any Adobe
Photoshop window.

Hundreds of presets come with the tools, providing users with successful
combinations and suggestions from which to generate new solutions.

Designed by Kai Krause, HSC's Vice President of Research and Development,
who is considered by many to be the world's leading expert in Adobe
Photoshop graphic design, KPT draws on Krause's years of experience as a
graphics designer and software developer. "We wanted to provide users with
image manipulation tools that expand their horizons, allowing functions
that can take hundreds of steps to be simplified," Krause said.

"Just the Gradients Path tool allows glows and halos and rainbows and
metallic tubes and fogs and on and on, the likes of which would be
virtually impossible without this tool. And the Texture Explorer may be
the crowning center piece of Version 1.0, generating textures and
materials in a totally new way!" Krause continued.

Other Notable Features

* Julia and Mandelbrot sets allow users to generate and explore using
fractals or zoomed fractal segments for masking and mapping.

* Glass Lens tools allow users to "spherize" a selection utilizing a
special case ray tracer, complete with shadow casting 3-D light source and
ambient light.

* New functionality and power features for existing Adobe Photoshop filters
like Spherize and Diffuse.

* Sharpen Intensity tools allows a stronger contrast and brighter colors
from application to an image.

* Cyclone filter allows users to view and capture 24-bit full color CLUT
animation of existing images.

Kai's Power Tools for Windows can be seen at PC Expo at HSC Software (booth
461) daily throughout the show. The company anticipates a release date of
