ASP Ships Dual-Printer Compact Print Server For ARCNET Networks Running
Novell NetWare

JetLAN 2P500 brings proven feature-set to ARCNET environments

Atlanta, Georgia, May 24, 1993 (COMDEX Spring) -- ASP Computer Products,
the number-one name in Hassle-Free printer sharing, today announced that
it is shipping a new JetLAN print server that allows two printers to be
connected anywhere on an ARCNET network running Novell NetWare.

"The ARCNET-specific JetLAN 2P is the close cousin of our Ethernet JetLAN
2P, which we introduced earlier this year," said ASP's president, Amnon
Even-Kesef. "There are 4.5 million installed ARCNET nodes in North
America, and the JetLAN 2P500 is the only hardware print-server solution
of its kind available to that market."

"This announcement follow ARCNET's approval as an American National
Standards Institute standard," said Robert Hollingsworth, director of
marketing at Datapoint Corp., pioneer of ARCNET and ARCNETPLUS networks.
"We're pleased that third-party developers, like ASP, are providing
continued support and new products for the worldwide base of ARCNET and
ARCNETPLUS users."

Both the ARCNET and Ethernet versions pack the power of a dedicated PC
print server into a lightweight, slim-profile enclosure that can mount
directly to the side of a printer for zero-footprint installation. Both
have two parallel output ports, so two printers can serve network file
servers through the device."

The ports can be set for "first available printer" operation, or can be
assigned to serve specific print queues.

JetLAN 2P Connects Just Like Any New Node

Physical connection for the JetLAN 2P is identical to connection of any new
network node on an ARCNET network. The device supports star or bus
configurations. Because the device literally puts the print server right
on a printer, it makes life easier for network administrators in two
important ways:

First, it frees the file server from print-server functions. This reduces
network overhead, and also provides greater network security--allowing
printers to be connected somewhere other than the file server. File
servers can be kept in secure locations. Second, the JetLAN 2P lets
administrators put printers wherever users need them most.

Some administrators use dedicated PCs as print servers, but that is an
expensive alternative to ASP's JetLAN 2P. The JetLAN 2P is far less
expensive. Equally important, it is optimized for data throughput. Users
get superior, highly cost-efficient performance. Jobs are processed three
to five times faster than they are by Novell's own PSERVER NetWare
Loadable Module (NLM). Print jobs are transferred from the file server to
the JetLAN 2P in large blocks, at network speeds, reducing the load on the
network.

Support For Multiple File Servers, On Multiple Segments

The JetLAN 2P supports up to 40 print queues on up to 16 file servers, and
those file servers can be located on different network segments. In its
multi-segment scan mode, the JetLAN 2P can "look" across routers and
bridges to file servers on other segments.

Administrators can install the JetLAN 2P quickly and easily, using Novell's
native PCONSOLE utility. No other software is required; however, the
JetLAN 2P ships with its own powerful JetLAN Utilities program, which
offers a rich array of features. Through the Utilities, supervisors can
test the operation of any JetLAN on the network-- independent of the file
server. In fact, even if the file server is down or off-line, users with
the Utilities program on their PCs can still send print jobs to any active
JetLAN.

Supervisors can also invoke a handy Initialize utility to have the JetLAN
2P search the network for changes in configuration information, such as
updates on new queues and servers. The JetLAN 2P responds to new data
immediately, recognizing changes on the network without having to be taken
off-line. The device also supports password encryption.

The JetLAN 2P for ARCNET (JL2P500) has connections for both twisted-pair
networks (dual RJ11 connectors) or coaxial-cable networks (BNC
connectors). The suggested retail price for the JetLAN 2P500 is $695.

The JetLAN 2P is now available from ASP's resellers and distributors
worldwide. For more information call 1-800-445-6190.
