GRiD Introduces New Generation of 486SL-Based Notebook Computers

Longer Battery Life and Configuration Options Enhance Mobility of 4025
Family

Westlake, TX, April 12 -- GRiD Systems Corporation today announced a new
generation of light-weight, modular, powerful 486SL-based notebook
computers, the GRiD 4025 family. The GRiD 4025 notebooks provide up to six
hours of use, or more than 20 percent longer battery life than competing
units, and offer the widest selection of configuration options. The 4025
modular design enables users to configure their own systems to fit their
individual needs through user accessible memory, a removable hard drive
and detachable trackball.

"These new GRiD 4025 notebooks offer users a truly personalized, very
powerful and secure mobile system in a rugged, light-weight, competitively
priced format." Bruce Walter, GRiD president said. "These units are
designed for professionals and power users who spend a significant portion
of their time out of the office, using custom spreadsheets and databases,
and developing and showing presentations."

The GRiD 4025 notebook is a 25 megahertz (MHz) Intel 486SL computer and can
be configured with color or backlit monochrome screens, upgraded to 32
megabytes (MB) of RAM from the standard 4MB, and with two PCMCIA version
2.0 cards slots. The two PCMCIA slots enable the user to incorporate a
variety of communications, memory, and software options to the 4025,
including network adapters, FlashROM and fax modems, which are available
from GRiD and other suppliers.

The GRiD 4025 notebooks offer three removable hard disk drives, an 80MB,
160MB or extra "ruggedized" 200MB drive, as well as Seagate's SafeRite
shock protection technology. The removable disks provide information
security and allow easy data portability between units.

An additional security feature is the two-level unbreakable password
protection, one level for the system administrator and one for the user.
Password protection is enabled via GRiD's Safekey ROM key. Without the
key, unauthorized use is not possible. "These units truly are secure due
to GRiD's Safekey innovation," Walter said.

The 4025 systems are designed to provide up to six hours of battery usage
under normal conditions. Extended battery life is achieved both through
power management features of the Intel 486SL chip and through intelligent
power management of the units themselves. The 486SL chip slows to 3.125
MHz when left idle, and the units, which incorporate low power consumption
3.3 volt power supplies, include suspend and resume modes. In addition,
the unit has automatic time-outs for hard disk and video, and a battery
pack power gauge to measure hours and minutes remaining before the low
battery warning is triggered. The 4025 units feature a "Hot-Swap" battery
facility that allows the user to switch the Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)
battery packs without turning off the system.

Screen choices include a 9.5" active color matrix (TFT) screen for the GRiD
4025NC, and a backlit monochrome screen for the 4025N. Both units support
external simultaneous video. The 4025N weighs 5.9 lbs. and measures 8.5 x
11.5 x 1.83", while the 4025NC active matrix color weighs one pound more
and measures 8.5 x 11.5 x 1.98". Each unit includes a 3.5" 1.44 MB floppy
drive.

For utilizing graphical interface applications, the 4025 line has a
standard, cableless trackball that attaches to the front of the keyboard,
and can be used by both right and left handed users without requiring
either hand to move from the keyboard. Each 4025 unit is ready to run with
the latest versions of MS-DOS 6.0 and Microsoft Windows 3.1.

The GRiD 4025N and 4025NC also provide a desktop replacement feature
through an optional docking station, into which the units can be locked.
The docking station provides access to two additional drive bays and two
16-bit ISA slots, as well as connections for the user's standard desktop
interfaces, such as networks, monitors, communications lines, and
printers.

The GRiD 4025 family of notebook computers are priced beginning at $2,099,
with 4MB memory and 80MB hard drive, and are available through the GRiD
direct 800 line, 1-800-934-GRiD (4743). They also will be offered directly
to corporate and government customers through the GRiD field sales force.
