FIFTH GENERATION SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES FASTBACK PLUS VERSION 1.1 FOR WINDOWS

New Version Features QIC And SCSI Tape Drive Support, Disaster Recovery,
Customizable FastBar Tool Bar, Drag & Drop Support

MAY 18, 1993, BATON ROUGE, La., Fifth Generation Systems today announced
Fastback Plus version 1.1 for Windows, the latest version of its popular
Windows backup utility. The product will ship in July.

The new version adds support for most popular tape drives, including
Colorado Memory Systems, Archive, and Iomega drives. SCSI support will be
added in an update to be released in August. Fastback also has a recovery
disk to allow users to restore from a hard drive crash without having to
reinstall any software. The customizable Fastbar lets users perform
operations with a click of the mouse, using the powerful macro language to
create buttons for one step operation access. Fastback also supports DDE,
so users can call Fastback when in other applications.

"Fastback Plus 1.1 for Windows is the best backup alternative for our
corporate user base as well as the home user who wants a truly hassle-free
backup utility," said Sandra Lyle, senior product marketing manager. "The
tape support allows users to schedule backups to popular large capacity
devices. The disaster recovery couldn't be simpler, since users need only
boot up from the recovery disk and then let Fastback perform a complete
restore."

New features include:

* Extensive Tape Support - In addition to QIC 40/QIC 80 tape drives,
Fastback Plus supports all large capacity SCSI tape devices using
controller cards with the ASPI interface (such as Adaptec), Microchannel
and Future Domain. And, Fastback has been certified as compatible with
Colorado Memory Systems' tape drives.

* Disaster Recovery - Fastback Plus allows users to create a bootable
recovery disk for use in the event of a complete disk failure. The feature
allows the user to boot the system from the floppy drive and restore from
the backup without having to reinstall any software.

* DDE support - allows Fastback Plus Windows to be linked to other
applications in Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups.

Version 1.1 is available through distributors and most retail outlets at a
suggested retail price of $149. Site licenses are also available.
Registered users can upgrade for $49, and upgrades will be offered for $69
for DOS 6.0 users and for users of competitive products such as Norton
Utilities, Norton Desktop, Norton BackUp, Central Point BackUp, and PC
Tools.
