CONNER EXPANDS RETAIL / RESELLER MARKET INITIATIVE WITH NEW LINE OF TAPE
BACKUP PRODUCTS

Cost-Competitive Tape-Stor Products Reach Broad Market

LAKE MARY, FLA, May 19, 1993 -- Conner Distribution Products Group,
formerly Maynard Electronics, a unit of Conner Peripherals, Inc. (NYSE:
CNR), today introduced the Tape-Stor series. This line expands Conner's
rapidly growing presence in the mass market with a comprehensive new line
of tape storage products designed to reach business and home PC users with
simple-to-use, aggressively priced tape backup hardware and software.
Priced, packaged and promoted for retail and reseller outlets, Tape-Stor
products represent a significant sales opportunity for merchants and a
chance for users to protect valuable computer data easily and
economically.

Currently encompassing some 20 hardware, software and media products, the
Tape-Stor line includes quarter-inch cartridge, minicartridge and DAT tape
drives and software for DOS, Windows and Novell NetWare environments.
Tape-Stor products also include the recently introduced Conner C250MQ 250
megabyte (MB) QIC-80 minicartridge systems and Conner Backup Assist
"Simply Safe" DOS backup software.

Tape backup makes protecting valuable data on home and small business PCs
as easy as clicking a mouse. Once relegated to high-end computers and
power users, tape backup is now small enough, simple enough and affordable
enough for most personal computer buyers. Tape backup sales also are a
proven way for retailers and resellers to increase margins in the
competitively priced PC market.

"The Tape-Stor line is a statement to the mass market that tape backup is
now truly simple enough, affordable enough and accessible enough to appeal
to the average home or business PC user. We expect that with Tape-Stor
products, most users will no longer see backup systems as merely an
option, but as a necessary and integral part of their PCs," said Patrick
Sullivan, vice president of distribution channel management for Conner.
"With point-of-purchase packaging, flexible bundling of accessories and
incentive programs, Tape-Stor products are a tremendous market opportunity
for retailers and resellers to add significant value to initial PC and
follow-up sales."

Conner Tape-Stor products range in capacity from 250MB to 4 gigabytes (GB),
come in internal and parallel configurations and provide a consistent look
and feel across the software platforms. These products complement the
existing Disk-Stor line of high performance 3.5-inch hard disk drives
ranging in capacity from 85MB to 250MB, designed to meet a broad array of
enduser needs and budget requirements.
