NEC EXPANDS THE ULTRALITE VERSA SERIES WITH INTRODUCTION OF 33MHz MODELS
AND 250MB HARD DISK DRIVES

(Boxborough, Mass., June 21,1993)-- Building upon the successful release of
the UltraLite Versa Series earlier this year, NEC Technologies, Inc. today
expands this product line with the introduction of UltraLite Versa 33,
180MB, Monochrome Display and UltraLite Versa 33C, 180MB, Color Display,
each with 33MHz processors and 180MB hard disk drives. In addition, in
August NEC plans to ship the UltraLite Versa notebook computer with 250MB
hard disk drive and a user-upgradable 250MB hard disk drive option.

The modular UltraLite Versa is the first notebook computer that allows each
user to choose specific configurations and change those configurations as
their needs change. The addition of the upgradable 33MHz processor and
user-upgradable 250MB hard disk drive, coupled with the high-capacity
memory, and the active-matrix TFT color, or STN monochrome display with
future pen input capability, uniquely positions the UltraLite Versa as one
of the most powerful notebook computers available today.

The UltraLite Versa Series offers the user many significant upgrade paths.
Monochrome screens are user-upgradable to color screens, and both
monochrome and color screens will support pen input via an NEC installable
pen upgrade. Also, the hard disk drive is user upgradable from 80MB to
120MB to 180MB and soon 250MB. Other options include system memory, which
is user upgradable from 4MB to 8MB to 12MB or 20MB, and the processor
speed is NEC upgradable from 20MHz to 25MHz and now to 33MHz.

"The Versa with 33MHz and 250MB combines the power and versatility needed
to provide the mobile professional with a notebook computer specifically
designed to meet their needs," said Bob Levin, director of portable
marketing at NEC Technologies. "These enhancements in the processor speed
and hard disk capacity exemplify the expandability and upgradability that
guarantees our users long-term investment protection. As applications
become more advanced, Versa continues to meet the growing needs of the
mobile professional."

UltraLite Versa Series Innovations

The UltraLite Versa Series of notebook computers implement many
technological advancements in portable computing, including:

** Modularity

The UltraLite Versa is the only notebook computer with five modular upgrade
paths including: display, hard disk drives, memory, processor and pen
computing, allowing users to change configurations as their computing
needs change.

** Power-Packed Performance

The UltraLite Versa combines the i486SL microprocessor, the best-suited
processor for mobile computing, designed by Intel Corporation, operating
at a low 3.3 volts and four levels of user configurable power management
to maximize battery life.

** DoubleTime Feature

The DoubleTime feature allows users to remove the floppy drive and insert
an additional battery, thus doubling the battery life from 5 to 10 hours
for the active-matrix color systems and 8 to 12 hours for the monochrome
systems. This feature addresses the needs of notebook computer users who
require long uninterrupted battery life for non-stop computing while
flying coast-to-coast or attending all-day business meetings.

** Local Bus Video

NEC, a pioneer in graphics technology, was the first to incorporate local
bus video for superior graphics performance in notebook computers. The
UltraLite Versa notebook computer's implementation via the i486SL PI
(peripheral interface) bus allows the graphics engine to display
information faster and eliminates the bottleneck of display data
traditionally associated with ISA bus-based video.

** Versatile High-Quality Display

The UltraLite Versa offers a user-removable, upgradable, and reversible STN
monochrome or active-matrix TFT color display design which converts from a
notebook to a pen tablet in seconds. Unlike passive-matrix displays,
active-matrix color displays provide a wider viewing angle, a faster
screen refresh and higher contrast, while eliminating ghosting.

** Flexible Connectivity

The UltraLite Versa includes two Type II PCMCIA slots or one Type III
PCMCIA slot with the capability to insert and remove PCMCIA cards without
powering down the system. The flexible, credit-card sized architecture
offers users a variety of communication options from data/fax modem cards
to Ethernet cards for connectivity to local area networks and 5MB Flash
Storage cards.

** Pen Computing Capability

The UltraLite Versa Series of notebook computers has the ability to convert
into a tablet in seconds, allowing the pen to be used as an input device
to gather data or obtain signatures, annotate documents and for use in
presentations. As mobile professionals, such as salespeople, insurance
adjusters and accountants, learn to appreciate the benefit of pen
computing, the NEC UltraLite Versa Series of notebook computers will be
right there with them.

Pricing and Availability

The NEC UltraLite Versa 33MHz models will be available in early July
through NEC's nationwide network of authorized dealers at the following
suggested retail prices:

UltraLite Versa 33, 180MB, Monochrome Display $3,629
