SOFTWARE PUBLISHING EXTENDS SUPERBASE VERSION 2.0 COMPETITIVE UPGRADE OFFER
PERIOD

Widespread interest from corporate evaluators drives extension of $199
price offer for Windows RDBMS

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 7, 1993 -- Software Publishing Corporation today
announced a six month extension of its $199 Superbase Competitive Upgrade
offer, primarily to accommodate the needs of MIS teams and developers
wishing to evaluate Superbase 2.0 with other competing Windows database
products.

"Superbase 2.0 competitive upgrade units are selling well into both
independent developer and corporate evaluation environments," said Ken
Rhie, director of product marketing for Superbase. "The number of
competitive evaluations is growing, so we feel it is important to maintain
our competitive pricing for those doing serious evaluations. Also, the
effect of our mix of seminar and promotional programs is beginning to be
really felt in the market," said Rhie. "We want to give all developers an
attractive opportunity to select Superbase 2.0 over the competing new
Windows database products."

"Our customers tell us that as the most mature and feature-rich Windows
database, Superbase 2.0 is an excellent choice for new corporate database
projects," said Chris Randles, vice president of marketing for Software
Publishing. "Since we announced our original competitive upgrade program,
Superbase 2.0 has been reviewed very favorably both in print and at major
PC industry forums, such as Demo '93, relative to new direct competitors,
Microsoft's Access and Borland's Paradox for Windows. By extending our
competitive upgrade offer period, we expect to continue this evaluation
momentum."

Programs Encourage Corporate Evaluation

Several Superbase promotional programs have fueled corporate evaluation
since the program's start. A 36 city seminar series called the "Challenge
of Change," presented the issues developers face in migrating database
applications to the Windows environment. The seminar program featured
actual developers of mature Superbase applications who shared their
development experiences with corporate evaluators.

Other promotional programs include participation in many sponsored
"shoot-outs" in both the reseller channel and at database user group
meetings nationwide.
