PANASONIC ANNOUNCES TWO NEW RISC-POWERED LASER PRINTERS

Five ppm Model Features PostScript Level 2, 10 ppm Model PCL5-Compatible

NEW YORK, June 29, 1993 -- Panasonic Communications & Systems Company
(PCSC) announced today two new desktop laser printers, one featuring
Adobe's PostScript Level 2 and both powered by Intel's i960 RISC processor
-- the KX-P5410 and KX-P4440 Laser Partners.

The KX-P5410, priced at $1,399, is a five pages-per-minute (ppm) PostScript
Level 2 laser printer designed for personal and office use offering 17
Adobe fonts, expandable to 39, and two megabytes (MB) of standard memory.
Users can also receive faxes on the KX-P5410 using its PostScript
language.

The KX-P4440, priced at $1,449, is a 10 ppm laser printer designed for
personal and business use offering PCL5-compatibility and Panasonic's
proprietary edge-smoothing and resolution enhancement technology,
SatinPrint.

"With these new announcements, Panasonic is further strengthening its hard
push toward the head of the pack in the personal laser category, to
combine with its number one position in impact technology," said Terry
Shorrock national marketing manager, Panasonic's Computer Printer
Division. "Both new products offer PC users -- personal or shared use in
large offices, small businesses and home offices -- high quality output
for word processing, spreadsheets, business graphics and, with the 5410,
desktop publishing applications."

KX-P5410

The KX-P5410 produces high-quality text at a resolution of 300 x 300
dots-per-inch (dpi) and comes standard with 28 internal bitmapped fonts in
HP LaserJet Series IIP emulation mode, in addition to its 17 scalable
fonts in native PostScript mode. It is equipped with a font card slot for
optional cards and is compatible with all HP LaserJet Series IIP
downloadable fonts for a wide range of choices. To accommodate end-users
who require multiple font styles in a document, font cards can be read
into the printer's memory while the most frequently used font card remains
in the font card slots for rapid access time.

The KX-P5410 offers standard RS-232C and RS-422A serial, Centronics
parallel and Appletalk interfaces. Standard memory is 2MB, expandable to
6MB using optional 1MB and 2MB expansion boards. The 1MB and 2MB boards
are available at suggested retail prices (SRP) of $175 and $275,
respectfully.

Versatile paper handling features on the KX-P5410 include a 200-sheet
multi-purpose input cassette with manual feed capability, 100-sheet face
down output tray for collated output, 20-sheet face up output tray for
heavier stock and envelopes and an optional second cassette. The printer
also features a 16-character LCD EZ-Set control panel that allows users to
select such functions as fonts, page format, paper size and number of
copies.

KX-P4440

The KX-P4440 laser printer, which replaces Panasonic's successful KX-P4450i
and KX-P4451 models, is designed for the multi-user business environment.
In addition to PCL5 emulation, the printer emulates IBM Proprinter and
Diablo 630 modes for extended software compatibility.

The KX-P4440 has eight outline fonts, 28 internal bitmapped fonts, a font
card slot for optional font cards, and is compatible with all HP Laser Jet
downloadable bitmap fonts. The KX-P4440 produces high-quality text and
graphics at a resolution of 300 x 300 dpi, and features HP LaserJet
III/PCL5 emulation.

Designed with Centronics parallel and RS-232C serial interfaces, the
KX-P4440 is compatible with most IBM or IBM-compatible systems. It is also
equipped with 1MB of memory standard, expandable to 5MB.

The KX-P4440 comes standard with two 200-sheet letter-size cassettes for
paper input flexibility, a 100-sheet face down tray for collated output
and a 20-sheet face up output tray for heavier stock and envelopes. The
printer also features an EZ-Set front control panel with 16-character
LCD.

The new Panasonic printers were introduced today at PC Expo, Jacob K.
Javits Convention Center, booth #4334.
