POLAROID INTRODUCES NEXT-GENERATION COLOR FILM RECORDERS

DIGITAL PALETTE "S" SERIES SETS NEW PRICE/PERFORMANCE STANDARD IN DESKTOP
CATEGORY

NEW YORK (June 28, 1993) -- Polaroid is marking the 10th anniversary of the
introduction of the first desktop color film recorder by introducing its
next-generation Digital Palette "S" Series. The new Digital Palette
CI-3000S and CI-5000S color film recorders set new industry
price/performance standards. They feature up to 100 percent increase in
throughput and are priced at approximately 10 percent less than the
earlier Digital Palette models.

The "S" Series achieves significantly faster light-on-film time with a new
accelerator board from Polaroid built directly into the film recorders.
The speed-enhanced "S" Series, combined with improved software, can bring
new levels of productivity and efficiency to desktop slide production.

ENHANCED THROUGHPUT

Total print time for slides consists of three components: rasterization
time, data transmission time, and light-on-film time. The "S" Series
reduces light-on-film time to 90 seconds for 4,000-line (4K) imaging, down
from five minutes with the original Digital Palette. For 2,000-line (2K)
imaging, the "S" Series reduces light-on-film time to 45 seconds from
two-and-a-half minutes.

The CI-3000S and the CI-5000S can output simple word slides, business
charts and graphs at 2K resolution in as little as 90 seconds, and at 4K
in under four minutes. The Digital Palette "S" can output complex images
with scanned photography and illustrations without the need for additional
memory or boards.

The original Digital Palette models can output 2K slides at a rate of three
to five minutes each, at a rate of 12-20 slides per hour. With the new "S"
Series, the same 2K slides print in 90-180 seconds, an increase in imaging
speed of up to 50 percent, for a total of 20-40 slides per hour. This
results in up to a 100 percent increase in throughput.

Productivity can be further enhanced with new and improved software
drivers, providing background and batch printing, and faster rasterization
and data transmission times.

Other improvements to the new film recorders include ergonomic enhancements
to the 35mm camera back, such as an easy-to-read LED display; prominent
camera door latch and rewind buttons; and operating instructions printed
on the camera back.

By enhancing the speed and features of the Digital Palette line and
lowering the price 10 percent, Polaroid is once again taking the lead in
setting new desktop CFR price/performance standards. Polaroid manufactures
the "S" Series in accordance with high industry standards at an ISO
9000-certified manufacturing site in Massachusetts .

"When we set out to establish new standards in the desktop film recorder
category, we had one objective in mind -- to make the Digital Palette "S"
Series the best value in the marketplace in terms of speed, quality and
affordability," said Joseph T. Kowalik, director, Desktop Imaging Group at
Polaroid. "We are pleased to have reached our objective with the "S"
Series, while maintaining end user convenience and enabling our customers
to improve their productivity."

PLUG AND PLAY

Like their predecessors, the CI-3000S and CI-5000S are easy to install and
easy-to-use, requiring no board installation. Both are compatible with
virtually all popular graphics packages and a host of operating platforms.
The CI-3000S is a 2K, DOS- and Windows-compatible device; the CI-5000S
offers a maximum addressable resolution of 4,000 lines and multi-platform
compatibility, i.e., Macintosh, DOS, Windows, Sun SparcStation, NeXTStep,
Amiga, and Atari.

Both film recorders offer 33-bit color recording precision and 24-bit
addressable color resolution for a total palette of 16.7 million colors.
Each ships with a 35mm camera back, imagePrint software which provides
extensive film table support, centronics cable, power cord, instruction
manual, applications tips and three rolls of Polaroid Presentation Chrome
35mm slide film.

Polaroid offers one of the best warranties in the desktop CFR industry -- a
