Matrox Announces New MGA Impression-PRO For High-Resolution, True-Color
Windows Users

June 29.1993 -- Montreal, Canada -- Matrox announces a new addition to its
MGA (Multimedia Graphics Architecture) Series of 64-bit graphics
accelerators, the MGA Impression-PRO to be shipped in Q3'93. The MGA
Series, based on Matrox's new MGA 64-bit graphics chip, offers true
workstation level performance for the PC Power User running Windows or CAD
applications. The MGA Impression-PRO, VL version, with 4.5 Mbytes of VRAM
will offer resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 x 24 bits with refresh rates of
60 74 Hz and expected true color WinMarks 3.11 performance of 25 Million.
Users have the option of adding 4 Mbytes of DRAM for high resolution 3D
CAD.

The MGA Impression-PRO is bundled with PowerDrivers for Microsoft Windows
3.1, Microsoft Windows NT and OS/2 2.1 Presentation Manager, Unix
X-Windows (Q4' 93) and Silicon Graphics' Open GL under Windows (Q4'93).
Added-value features, easily accessible through Matrox's Control Panel
Menuing System, include; ModeSwitch, on-the-fly, hotkey resolution
switching within Windows without having to reboot; Matrox's Virtual
Desktop, a 1600 x 1200 virtual desktop by moving the mouse; PixelTouch, a
hotkey driven hardware pan and zoom by two to four times and ClearType, a
hotkey-driven hardware laser-type quality anti-aliased fonts. Also bundled
are WinSqueeze compression utility for on-the-fly JPEG compression and
decompression, and ConsistentColor, a monitor calibration utility.

The MGA Series includes two versions: MGA Ultima and the MGA Impression
with support for the AT, MCA and VESA VL bus (PCI versions available in
Q3'93). The MGA Ultima with either 1 or 2Mbytes of VRAM, offers
resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 in 256 colors. The MGA Impression comes with
3Mbytes of VRAM and offers resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 x 8-bits with
high performance true color 24-bits. Users also have the option of adding
2Mbytes of DRAM to the MGA Impression for 3D graphics Gouraud shading and
Z-buffering at 1152 x 882.

The MGA Impression-PRO comes with two upgrade options; Marvel
Broadcast-Quality Live Video Input and Windowing Controller for multimedia
video input and windowing applications and Quality Video Encoder --
(Q3-93) to output graphics to standard VCRs or other video devices for
recording or mixing purposes.

The MGA Impression-PRO will ship in August 1993 at $1699US and with the
extra four megabytes of DRAM, at $1999US.
