PANASONIC SETS NEW PRICE/PERFORMANCE STANDARD WITH INTRODUCTION OF DOT
MATRIX PRINTER FOR STUDENTS AND HOME USE

NEW YORK, June 29, 1993 -- Panasonic Communications & Systems Company
(PCSC) today reinforced its position as a leading supplier to the home and
student computer products markets, and set a new price/performance
standard in the dot matrix printer industry with the introduction of the
Panasonic KX-P1150.

The KX-P1150, priced at $169.95, is a nine-pin, near letter-quality printer
targeted at budget-conscious student and home users. This "back-to-basics"
printer comes packaged in a rugged design and offers exceptional
ease-of-use and cost effectiveness, along with a two year warranty.

To simplify printer commands, the KX-P1150 offers a user-friendly setup
disk with all feature selections appearing on-screen for easy
modification. The disk, also offering a Windows 3.1 driver and an
electronic command reference, works with all IBM PC compatibles with a
3.5-inch floppy disk drive.

"Students and PC home users represent an attractive niche market that some
printer manufacturers have ignored in favor of large business users," said
Terry Shorrock, national marketing manager for Panasonic's Computer
Printer Division. "Considering its exceptional price/performance value,
we're confident the KXP1150 will be the printer choice of students and
home customers."

The KX-P1150's setup disk allows home users to easily access all commonly
used printer functions while they are operating their computers. It
handles functions such as text enhancements, emulation, page formats and
character sets. The KX-P1150 also features a simplified EZ Set front panel
that controls the following seven functions: fonts, on-line, tear-off,
line feed, form feed, paper load and paper park.

The KX-P1150 features three draft fonts: draft pica, draft elite and draft
micron, and four resident near-letter-quality (NLQ) fonts: Courier, Roman,
Bold PS and Sans Serif. The KX-P1150 prints at a maximum burst speed of
240 characters-per-second (cps) in draft mode, and 38 cps in NLQ mode.

The printer's paper handling capabilities are designed to meet students and
home users' needs and simplify paper installation with its flat belt rear
tractor (adjustable) for push mode. There is also a top paper path for
friction feed, which allows an 11.7-inch maximum paper width with
eight-inch print line for versatile paper handling.

The new printer has a 4K buffer capacity (expandable to 32K) and an
optional cut sheet feeder priced at an attractive $69.95. It also comes
standard with a Centronics parallel interface, and incorporates IBM
Proprinter III and Epson FX-850 emulations allowing compatibility with
virtually all off-the-shelf software.

The KX-P1150 is available in July through authorized Panasonic dealers and
distributors for an SRP of $169.95 and comes with a two-year limited
warranty for parts and labor.
