ASP Announces JetLAN 4P, the First Four Parallel Port Print Server for
Ethernet Networks Running Novell NetWare

Sunnyvale, Calif, June 22, 1993--ASP Computer Products, the leader in
Hassle-Free Connectivity, today announced the JetLAN 4p giving network
administrators the ability to connect four printers to one network
connection on an Ethernet network running Novell NetWare. The JetLAN 4P is
the first network print server available that allows each printer to
connect to the device using a parallel port.

The JetLAN 4P print server is especially useful for workgroups that need
access to multiple printers to accomplish different tasks. For example, an
accounting department may use a laser printer for general printing, a
wide-carriage printer to print financial statements, and several dotmatrix
printers to print invoices and labels; and an engineering department may
use a combination of plotters, laser printers and dot-matrix printers in
their work. The JetLAN 4P provides network administrators nearing their
NetWare login connection allowance the ability to attach four new printers
to the LAN using only one network connection.

"Our customers tell us they want a print server that connects multiple
printers using the printer's parallel port," said ASP's president Amnon
Even-Kesef. "Competing products require that connections be made using a
printer's serial port, but most printers on the market don't have serial
port connections. Network administrators would have to spend extra money
just to add a serial port connection to the printer in order to use
competing products. Besides, printing through a serial port is
significantly slower than printing through a parallel port. Our new JetLAN
4P is the only print server on the market that allows four printers to be
connected to the LAN via their parallel ports."

JetLAN 4P Offers Hassle-Free NetWare Printing

The JetLAN 4P, like all JetLAN Family products, installs on the network
similar to a new network node. JetLANs solve a number of critical network
printing issues. With JetLANs, administrators can place printers anywhere
within a workgroup without dedicating an expensive PC to manage network
printing. File servers can be locked away in a secure location.

Network printing speed is significantly improved by using ASP's JetLAN
4P--three to five times faster than Novell's own print server protocols
can process jobs. Print jobs are transferred from the file server to the
JetLAN 4P in large blocks at network speeds, reducing the load on the
network.

The ports on the JetLAN 4P can be configured for "first available printer"
output or can be assigned to serve specific print queues. The JetLAN 4P
packs its powerful features into a slim profile enclosure that can mount
directly to the side of one of the printers, without taking up valuable
office space.

JetLAN 4P Offers Powerful Network Print Management Features

Up to 40 print queues and up to 16 file servers can be serviced by the
JetLAN 4P. In its multisegment scan mode, the JetLAN 4P can find print
jobs across routers and bridges from file servers on other network
segments.

The JetLAN 4P installs quickly and easily using Novell's PCONSOLE utility.
No other software is required. For more powerful network print management
features, network administrators can use the JetLAN Utilities Program that
comes with the JetLAN 4P.

Through these Utilities, supervisors can test the operation of any JetLAN
on the network-- independent of the file server. In fact, even if all file
servers are down or off-line, mission-critical print jobs can still be
sent to a JetLAN using the Utilities program.

Supervisors can also invoke a handy Initialize utility to have the JetLAN
4P search the network for changes in configuration, such as updates on new
queues and servers. The JetLAN 4P responds to the new data immediately,
recognizing changes without having to be taken off-line. In addition, for
enhanced LAN security, every JetLAN device supports Novell's password
encryption.

External LED indicators on the JetLAN 4P help network administrators with
Print diagnostics without having to enter either NetWare's or the JetLAN's
print utilities software. The LEDs provide information as to which type of
cabling is active (10BaseT or 10Base2), whether the device is
communicating with the server, if the product is transmitting and
receiving data and if Hub connections are active.

Configurations, Pricing and Availability

The JetLAN 4P for Ethernet networks comes with both an RJ-45 connector to
support 10BaseT configurations and a BNC connector to support 10Base2
configurations. The device automatically senses the type of network that
is active.

The JetLAN 4P will begin shipping in August at a suggested retail price of
$795. Distributors, dealers and end-users may contact ASP at
1-800-445-6190 for more information or to order the product.
