CONNER SOFTWARE SHOWS FIRST BACKUP SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS NT AT PC EXPO

NEW YORK, NY, June 29, 19933 Conner Software Products Group, a leading
supplier of storage management software and a division of Conner
Peripherals Inc. (NYSE:CNR), will show its Backup Exec for Windows NT, the
industry's first backup software for Microsoft's Windows NT and Windows NT
advanced server operating systems, at PC Expo, Booth #3352.

Backup Exec for Windows NT will be available when Microsoft's Windows NT
ships, and is being sold at $199 suggested list price. Conner Software has
been shipping Beta copies through a special price offer to Microsoft
Windows NT developers and beta sites for testing. These users will receive
the final/full production product free of charge at that time.

Conner Software wrote the Backup Utility included in Microsoft's Windows NT
operating system. Conner's Backup Exec for Windows NT is a full featured
backup application which is 100% compatible with Microsoft's Backup
Utility, and sets the standard for backup applications for Windows NT.

According to Robert Wight, vice president of Conner Software, "Our new
Backup Exec product for Windows NT comes from Conner, the company that
worked with Microsoft Corp. to develop the Microsoft Tape Format (MTF), a
key component of the Windows NT operating system strategy." MTF provides a
standard, logical data format, ensuring vendor-independent cartridge
interchange for the first time. The MTF standard has been adopted by more
than 40 companies and by Quarter Inch Cartridge Standards, Inc., as well
as 3M Company. Wight noted, "Backup Exec has been fully tested and well
received by the Windows NT beta sites ensuring the reliability of our full
production version upon shipping. Backup Exec for Windows NT provides a
multitude of new features, ease of use and functionality, plus new and
advanced data management capabilities."

Backup Exec delivers the full range of advanced backup and restore
features, including programmable unattended backup sessions, background
operation, and support for backing up multiple network servers. A tape
library catalog is maintained on the hard disk, providing on-line access
to file location information. This allows files to be searched for,
selected and restored using the Conner Fast File Restore (FFR)
capability.

Advanced data management features, such as disk grooming and file
versioning are built into Backup Exec. Extensive reporting functions such
as tape contents, open file skip logs, in-process reports and error report
logs are included. The software also features E-mail results of unattended
operation. Tapes created by Backup Exec for Windows NT are interchangeable
with the NT backup utility.

Backup Exec for Windows NT is a full featured backup software that provides
users with data management capabilities, allowing them to fully take
advantage of the capabilities of their Windows NT operating system and
provides them with additional networking capabilities. Backup Exec
includes support for backing up Windows NT and Windows for Workgroups
workstations, as well as OS/2 workstations running peer services.

Backup Exec for Windows NT is a full featured backup application that
conforms to the Windows File Manager graphical interface, providing a
familiar and easy to use format for users. Unlike proprietary backup
interface menus, Backup Exec for Windows NT allows users to run their data
backup and restore operations as simply as they manage hard disk files.
Icons for drives, file servers, tapes and logs, turn backup management
into an easy point and click exercise.

Backup Exec for Windows NT provides support for all file systems running
under Windows NT, including FAT, HPFS and NTFS. It also backs up and
restores the registry, which contains the NT configuration, security, and
accounts information, among others.

Backup Exec for Windows NT supports the current generation of high-speed
tape systems, and depending on the drive used and data compression
capability, can reliably transfer data at speeds of up to 48 megabytes per
minute.

Backup Exec for Windows NT supports all controllers that are supported by
Windows NT and most standard SCSI tape devices and QIC-80 tape drives from
Conner, Colorado Memory Systems, Exabyte, Iomega, Mountain Network
Solutions, Summit, Teac, Tandberg and Wangtek.
