Stirling ships Version 2. 0 of InstallSHIELD for Microsoft Windows

Schaumburg, Illinois Feb. 25,1994--Stirling Technologies, Inc. announces
the availability of Version 2.0 of InstallSHlELD for Microsoft Windows
3.1. InstallSHlELD 2.0 enables developers to create bullet-proof,
professional installations for Windows applications quickly. InstallSHlELD
is currently used by thousands of corporations, independent software
vendors and government agencies in over 50 countries and 12 languages to
distribute Windows applications.

With InstallSHlELD developers can create interactive installation programs
that can selectively install an application customized to each user's
needs. User of Windows applications are immediately comfortable in a
familiar graphical environment when installing applications. Developers
have all the benefits of a graphical environment such as wide variety of
graphical controls, the flexibility to use corporate titles and logos.
With InstallSHlELD developers can spend their time developing their
applications and not powerful installation programs that can be quickly
created with InstallSHlELD.

InstallSHlELD can install software on a workstation, a LAN connected to the
workstation or a combination of both. InstallSHlELD 2.0 offers over 200
powerful new functions and significantly improved performance. Version 2.0
gives the developer the ability to customize every aspect of their
installation program and give it the presentation and style of their
choice.

New Compression tool & FileSets ease management of files on disks

The new compression engine allows developers to compress & decompress any
number of files and sub-directories with a simple command. FileSets,
introduced with Version 2.0, allow developers to selectively install an
application's files based on user selections during installation and
developers need not worry which disk contains which files. FileSets do all
the "dirty work" of keeping track of which files reside on which disks and
optimally requesting the disks to minimize the number of times disks have
to be inserted by the end-user. With InstallSHlELD 2.0 developers no
longer have to program extensive file management in their installation
programs.

Ready to use examples, 35 pre-built custom dialogs, extensive
documentation

InstallSHlELD 2.0 includes three ready to use examples based on the most
popular installation styles, that developers can customize "right out of
the box" to create installations for their applications. Also included are
more than 35 pre-built modular dialog boxes most often needed by graphical
installation programs, eliminating the need for developers to "reinvent
the wheel," allowing developers to concentrate their efforts on developing
the core functionality of their installation. Developers can use one of
the pre-built dialog boxes as is or customize them for their installation.
InstallSHlELD includes over 1000 pages of printed documentation with
complete on-line help versions also.

Quick & easy DLL support, direct access to Windows API

InstallSHlELD 2.0 enhanced DLL support enables developers to call any DLL (
Dynamic Link Library ) directly from their installation program, including
the entire Microsoft Windows API ( Application Programming Interface ) .
Creating installation programs which go a lot further in installing
complex applications such as databases are easier to create now since any
database server API to create new data tables can be called during
installation. " With this release we have redefined the power and control
a developer will forever expect in an installation program development
system. InstallSHlELD 2.0 is designed to make the process of creating
bullet-proof graphical installations much easier for developers, yet
allowing them to retain control over the entire installation process for
their applications." said Richard R. Harold, Chief Technical Officer of
Stirling Technologies, Inc.

Safe & intelligent system file modification functions

InstallSHlELD Version 2.0 introduces new functions to modify or add to
system files such as CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI and
other user defined system files. These functions enable the developer to
safely and intelligently modify the system files to ensure that the target
system is not destabilized by the installation of a new application. New
support for installing device drivers in the SYSTEM.INI file allows
developers to add new drivers to the 386-Enhanced section with one simple
statement. This new feature not available in any competitive product,
previously, required the writing of a C language program to handle this
task.

Customized presentation and style

InstallSHlELD 2.0 offers the flexibility to completely customize all
aspects of an installation program. Developers can use custom corporate
logos, titles and colors to give the installation the presentation and
style of their application.
