Testing Computer Software, Second Edition receives Award of Excellence

San Jose, C.A., March 15, 1994 -- Van Nostrand Reinhold is proud to
announce that Testing Computer Software, Second Edition has received the
prestigious Award of Excellence from the Society for Technical
Communication in the 1993 Northern California Technical Publications
Competition. The announcement was made today at the Software
Development/Business Software Solutions Conference in San Jose, CA.

Written by Cem Kaner, Jack Falk, and Hung Quoc Nguyen, Testing Computer
Software is a practical guide designed for testers with limited budgets
and small staffs. It shows how to effectively test software in the real
world -- when given insufficient or inaccurate specifications, when specs
are constantly changing, and when the entire project is running behind
schedule.

The book is rooted in the real-life experience of it's authors, all of whom
have been test managers in Silicon Valley software companies.

"I started work on it ten years ago because I got so frustrated with what
my staff was going through," says lead author Kaner, who wrote the first
edition as a training manual. "In schools, seminars and from many books,
they learned about formal standards and recommended practices that bore no
relationship to what we had to do to assure good quality in our
products."

Since its publication, Testing Computer Software has been well received by
test managers in many software publishing companies including IBM and
Microsoft. It has proved to be an essential reference tool for software
quality control group members, programmers who test their own code and
computer science students.

Cem Kaner is a J.D. specializing in the law of software quality. He holds a
Ph.D. in Psychology and is certified as a Quality Engineer by the American
Society for Quality Control. Jack Falk is an Associate Producer at
Electronic Arts. Hung Quoc Nguyen, also a certified Quality Engineer, is
the founder of softgear technology, a Foster City, CA company that
develops business productivity software applications.

Since its founding in 1848, Van Nostrand Reinhold (VNR) has pioneered the
publication of high-quality engineering, technical and scientific
reference books. VNR's computer book group, founded in 1978, publishes an
extensive list of timely, high-level technical books for computer
professionals and business executives in any industry. The books are
written by industry authorities in each subject area and are often
published in cooperation with leading hardware and software vendors. All
VNR titles can be purchased through major book chains, independent book
stores, book distributors and college bookstores.
