SAN JOSE, Calif., March 15, 1994 -- Oracle Corp., today announced the
Oracle Workgroup Server, an affordable, easy-to-use, desktop database
server that brings the power of the industry-leading Oracle7 database
technology to workgroups. The announcement was made today at the Software
Development Conference held here.

"This marks a significant step in Oracle's strategy to gain leadership in
the LAN-based desktop database market. The Oracle Workgroup Server is
distinguished by its ease-of-use, one-button installation and portability
on all leading desktop server operating systems," said Jerry Baker, an
Oracle senior vice president. "With the introduction of the Oracle
Workgroup Server, the Oracle7 family of servers now scales from workgroups
with a small number of users to the enterprise level with thousands of
users. It is the only affordably-priced desktop server to enable true
enterprise scalability."

The Oracle Workgroup Server has the powerful features of Oracle7 including
stored procedures and triggers. To this it adds a number of features to
support desktop user needs and increase the ease of system management and
administration. The new features include:

* Microsoft's Open Database Connection (ODBC) support, ODBC, a popular
interface that allows a variety of desktop tools to access the Oracle
Workgroup Server.

* Graphical database management utilities, which offer point-and-click
tools to manage database objects, as well as alerts to notify the users of
system capacity usage.

* One button installation, with a pre-configured and tuned database to
manage a wide variety of applications and access to Microsoft's on-line
help facility.

* Oracle Glue, a software utility to allow users transparent use with
desktop data management tools, a variety of applications packages and
application development languages including Visual Basic, Excel, SQL
Windows, Paradox, Microsoft Visual C++, Borland C++ and Oracle's
Cooperative Development Environment (CDE) which allows interoperability
with Oracle databases.

* Portability to major desktop and network operating systems, including
Windows NT, OS/2 and Netware.

* Complete upward compatibility to departmental and enterprise versions of
Oracle7 servers.

* National language capability, to allow worldwide usage.

Leading Software Tools Developers Endorse

Also part of the announcement, leading software tools providers publicly
announced support for the Oracle Workgroup Server. The tools companies
include Borland, Brio, Cognos, Dimensional Insight, Gupta, KnowledgeWare,
ReportSmith, Symantec as well as Oracle's own set of development tools,
the Oracle Cooperative Development Environment (CDE).

As a Software Developer's Kit (SDK), the Oracle Workgroup Server will allow
developers to quickly build and deploy powerful client/server applications
using their favorite development tools. Oracle is working with the leading
Windows-based tools developers to provide tight integration between the
Oracle Workgroup Server and leading development tools products.

Pricing, Availability and Product Requirements

The SDK for the Oracle Workgroup Server is competitively priced at $995
(U.S.) for two users and $2995 for ten-users. Pricing for distribution
kits will be announced later this year.

The Oracle Workgroup Server is available on the Windows NT platform as a
SDK to strategic Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). General SDK
availability for Windows NT will follow in April and OS/2 in June. The
deployment version of the Oracle Workgroup server will be available
worldwide in the third calendar quarter of 1994 for Windows NT, OS/2 and
Netware.

Oracle Workgroup Server requires an IBM or Compaq PC (386 or higher) or any
fully PC-compatible computer. Oracle recommends 16MB RAM, and 45 MB hard
disk space. The server operating system requires Windows NT 3.1 or higher,
NetWare 3.11 or higher, or OS/2 2.1 or higher.

This new product is the second product in Oracle's expanding family of
workgroup products. The first product in the series was OracleWare, a
jointly developed, marketed and distributed product with Novell which
integrates Oracle7, Oracle Office, Oracle Glue and NetWare 3.12.
OracleWare shipped in December of last year.
