POWERSOFT ENDORSES APPWARE
Tools Vendor To License AppWare Bus

Software Development '94/Business Solutions, San Jose, Calif--March 16,
1994 --Powersoft Corporation today announced its endorsement of Novell's
AppWare software development environment which makes it easier for
developers to create cross-platform network applications. Powersoft,
providers of PowerBuilder and other high-performance application tools,
has a multi-tiered approach to AppWare, including the licensing of
Novell's AppWare Bus and the creation of AppWare Loadable Modules (ALMs)
for its PowerBuilder tool.

The announcement is the latest industry support for AppWare during Novell's
March "Applications Awareness Month" and represents the next step in
Novell and Powersoft's strategic relationship.

PowerBuilder To Become AppWare-Enabled Tool

Powersoft will license Novell's AppWare Bus. Analogous to the hardware bus,
the AppWare Bus allows software ALMs to communicate and work together as
customized software programs. In licensing the AppWare Bus, Powersoft will
be able to provide its base of 3,500 customer sites and thousands of
developers with an even easier-to-use, customized tool for building
network applications. This AppWare-enhanced version of PowerBuilder will
provide developers with access to Novell and third-party ALMs, ranging
from multimedia to workflow, within their familiar PowerBuilder tool. The
same engine that powers Novell's Visual AppBuilder SGL tool, the AppWare
Bus, will now allow PowerBuilder developers to create custom programs by
linking ALMs.

"We view AppWare as a strategic development platform, and as a significant
business opportunity for Powersoft," said Bill Critch, director of
business and alliance programs for Powersoft. "In making this commitment
to AppWare, we are continuing to deliver tools to allow developers to
become more productive."

"Powersoft's endorsement has important implications for AppWare and for the
development community," said Joe Firmage, Vice President of Novell's
AppWare Systems Group. "Powersoft's commitment to AppWare is a significant
step to breaking down the barriers to network application development. By
licensing the AppWare Bus, Powersoft will provide their developer base
with access to the very large and rapidly growing base of ALMs."

Through a technology agreement with Novell, Powersoft will explore
delivering a family of ALMs. With these ALMs, corporate developers will be
able to more rapidly create and deploy custom applications using Power
Builder's graphic development tool.

In addition to AppWare-enabling PowerBuilder, this week at Software
Development '94 Novell announced partnerships with a variety of tools
vendors--Visual Edge, KASEWORKS, and GUILD. This adds to the list of
partners already pledging support to AppWare, including Borland, Gupta,
WordPerfect Corp., Reach, and, most recently, Bell Atlantic. More AppWare
endorsements will be announced next week at Novell's BrainShare technical
conference in Salt Lake City.

Powersoft and Novell Perspective

One year ago, at the Software Development Conference, Powersoft and Novell
announced PowerBuilder support for the NetWare environment. This tighter
integration between Novell and Powersoft has allowed network services to
be transparently accessed by corporate application developers. Now, with
Powersoft's endorsement of the AppWare software development layer,
developers will be able to create more powerful network applications with
an even more customized tool set.

"One of the measures of AppWare's success is the issue of obtaining
critical mass within the developer community," added Firmage. "We view
Powersoft's commitment to ALM creation and to creating an AppWare-enabled
version of PowerBuilder as a major milestone for AppWare and the
continuation of AppWare's relationship with key tools vendors."

AppWare Perspective

Announced in June, AppWare is a comprehensive application development
environment that improves and accelerates the process of creating and
deploying cross-platform network applications, enabling developers to
supply users with sophisticated applications for solving specific business
needs. AppWare currently leverages two existing technologies, Visual
AppBuilder and AppWare Foundation.

Visual AppBuilder is a high-level programming tool that enables developers
to construct full-featured applications by linking icons that represent
prebuilt ALMs. ALMs are interchangeable software components that reside on
the client and access the services provided by the local operating system
and by server-based NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs). Visual AppBuilder is
available on the Macintosh and MS Windows platforms.

AppWare Foundation is composed of programming libraries and a universal
application programming interface (API) for accessing operating system,
user interface and connectivity services. Instead of coding and recoding
to different API sets to support multiple platforms, a developer writes
the application code once to a single API then simply recompiles the
application to deploy it on multiple platforms. AppWare Foundation is
available for the MS Windows, Macintosh, UnixWare, SunOS, and HP-UX
platforms. Future versions will include support for: OS/2, MS Windows NT,
MS Windows 4.0 Beta (Chicago), Sun Solaris, and AIX.

Both tools offer better, more efficient programming environments for
developers, significantly increasing productivity of in-house and
commercial software developers.

Powersoft Corp. (NASDAQ:PWRS) develops and markets the Powersoft Enterprise
Series which includes PowerBuilder Enterprise, PowerBuilder Desktop,
PowerMaker and PowerViewer. The Powersoft Enterprise Series is the first
family of scalable tools that meets the enterprise-wide application
development and data access needs of professional developers and end
users. PowerBuilder Enterprise, PowerBuilder Desktop and PowerMaker
incorporate WATCOM's high-performance database engine, WATCOM SQL, which
allows developers to build applications using a standalone database. Based
in Waterloo, Ontario, Powersoft's WATCOM wholly-owned subsidiary is a
leading provider of high-performance application development tools,
including the WATCOM C/C++ multiplatform compilers, for 16- and 32-bit
Intel-based PCs. Headquartered in Burlington, Mass., Powersoft has
products that are used at more than 3,500 customer sites for the
development and deployment of client/server applications.

Novell Inc. is an information system software company, developer of network
services, specialized and general purpose operating system products, and
application programming tools. Novell's NetWare, UnixWare and AppWare
families of products provide matched system components for rightsized
information systems within multivendor network computing environments.
