INTELLIGENT ENVIRONMENTS TO DELIVER BENEFITS OF IBM's SOM OBJECT
TECHNOLOGY

SAN JOSE, CA -- March 17, 1994 -- Intelligent Environments, Inc. today
announced it is integrating IBM Corporation's System Object Model (SOM)
and Distributed SOM (DSOM) technology into its AM (Applications Manager)
family of visual client/server development tools for OS/2. AM with SOM
integration will give IS organizations practical, easy-to-use capabilities
for sharing and re-using objects when building client/server applications,
regardless of the languages in which the objects are written.

This integration will be delivered through AM SOM/Workbench software, being
developed by Intelligent Environments for availability in Q4 1994. AM
SOM/Workbench will combine a SOM class browser with AM code generation
facilities. It will give developers a rapid, automated method for
understanding class features and programming elements and putting objects
to use in client/server applications.

"Integrating SOM and DSOM into AM is a key step in our strategy of enabling
development teams to build sophisticated client/server applications by
plugging together reusable, multilanguage components," said Terry
Golesworthy, Intelligent Environments' president. Intelligent Environments
intends to license SOM and DSOM technology from IBM for integration with
AM.

"We are extremely pleased that Intelligent Environments will be providing
integrated SOM and DSOM support in their award winning AM software via the
SOM/Workbench product," said Cliff Reeves, director of IBM's Object
Technology Products organization. "The enhanced ability to reuse software,
and the integrated distributed CORBA support, will add significant value
to AM customers."

Integration with SOM and DSOM also positions AM to support the planned
Taligent frameworks and the OpenDoc compound document architecture. SOM is
the first cross-language, cross-platform implementation of the Object
Management Group's Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA)
specification. DSOM builds on SOM to provide support for object
interactions across multi-platform networks.

IBM to Sell AM in the U.S.

Intelligent Environments today also announced that the full line of AM
client/server development tools is now available directly from IBM. The
distribution agreement enables IBM to sell AM tools in selected areas of
the U.S.

Intelligent Environments develops and markets the AM family of
client/server development tools for advanced workstation operating
systems. AM is the preeminent OS/2 tool for mission-critical application
development, used successfully at 1,500 commercial and government sites
worldwide. Founded in 1985, Intelligent Environments is a privately-held
company based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, with European headquarters in
London.
