SYMANTEC ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR IBM'S SOM/DSOM FOR SYMANTEC C++

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- March 15, 1994 -- Symantec announced today its support
for IBM's SOM and DSOM in the Windows environment and its intent to
license the SOM/DSOM technology from IBM for inclusion in a future version
of its Symantec C++ Professional.

"IBM's SOMobjects Technology represents an important conceptual evolution
in object-oriented programming, one that brings true component-level code
reusability much closer to fruition," said Gene Wang, Symantec's executive
vice president of applications and development tools. "We're pleased to
provide support for the Windows version of SOM and DSOM with our
world-class compiler, Symantec C++."

SOM allows for the creation of language-independent objects and DSOM lets
them be shared across a network This combination of benefits complements
Symantec's dedication to object-oriented technology and its commitment to
provide superior development tools for the large enterprise environment.
This also positions Symantec to support the OpenDoc compound architecture
when made available on Windows later this year.

In addition to providing support for IBM's Toolkit, Symantec announced its
intent to License portions of the SOM/DSOM technology from IBM for
inclusion within a future version of Symantec C++ Professional. Symantec
would not disclose timing or details of the future version.
