BRISTOL TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES WIND/U 2.0

New Release of Wind/U Toolkit Allows Developers to Port Microsoft Windows,
Visual C++, and NT Applications to UNIX/Motif

Bristol Tests IXI's Wintif and Allows Wind/U Ported Products a Windows
Look-and-Feel

Ridgefield, Conn, March 21, 1994 - The computer industry's rush toward the
ultimate cross platform technology achieves new heights with Bristol
Technology's (Bristol) introduction of Wind/U 2.0, a major release of the
company's Windows to UNIX portability toolkit. Among its key features,
Wind/U 2.0 supports Microsoft's Win32s API and the 32-bit version of
Visual C++. Bristol's Wind/U toolkit now allows developers to build
applications with Visual C++, or other Windows development environments,
that run on Windows, Windows NT, and UNIX/Motif, all from the same source
base.

Wind/U 2.0 enables developers to concentrate their development efforts on
the portable Microsoft Windows API. Wind/U 2.0 is designed to add more
flexibility, power, and ease-of-use to cross platform development.

"Wind/U lets developers focus on the single most popular API in the world,"
said Keith Blackwell, Bristol president. "We are preserving and extending
the developer's investment in the Windows API. This means developers can
create versions of their software for Sun, HP, IBM, and DEC Alpha
workstations in a matter of weeks rather than months or even years."

Key Enhancements

Wind/U 2.0 includes four major enhancements:

* Support for Microsoft Win32s Application Programming Interface (API) -
this enhancement allows developers to use the industry standard Windows
and NT API to develop software products for UNIX/Motif. Developers benefit
by developing on the Windows NT operating system and producing an
application for Windows, NT, and UNIX/Motif with a common source code
base.

* Support for Microsoft Visual C++ Development System for Windows and
Windows NT, 32-Bit Edition - this support makes it possible for developers
to build and run their Visual C++ applications on UNIX/Motif. Developers
benefit by being able to use the fast emerging application framework
standard, Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) library, and ship a UNIX
version of their application in a fraction of the time it would take them
to either hand port or rewrite the application to a proprietary portable
API.

* Xprinter 2.2 - this enhancement integrates of the latest version of
Bristol's Xprinter printing library with the Wind/U graphical device
interface. Xprinter 2.2 adds PCL4 support to the PCL5 and PostScript
printing capabilities of Wind/U, as well as the flexibility to print to
over 200 printers from a Wind/U-ported application. Developers benefit by
being able to print easily from their applications with robust font and
printer handling. Xprinter is the printing technology for applications
such as Lotus Notes and Ami Pro and Computer Associates 20/20.

* Wind/U Spy - this enhancement provides developers with the familiar
Windows Spy debugging tool on UNIX. Wind/U Spy makes it possible for
developers to monitor messages sent to one or more windows and to examine
the values of message parameters. Developers benefit by being able to
visualize and capture their debugging messages, improving their
efficiency.

* Other Major Enhancements Color Palette Support - this enhancement allows
developers to utilize the device independent color capabilities of
Microsoft Windows on UNIX workstations. Developers benefit by being able
to make better use of colors for high-end imaging and graphics
applications.

Color Common Dialog Support - this enhancement allows developers to provide
their end-users with the same look-and-feel in their Wind/U-ported
application as in the original Windows application. End-users benefit by
being able to select colors within an application.

General Electric Makes Use of Wind/U

"Bristol has the full Windows application programming interface instead of
a subset. We really liked the functionality of the Windows API, and the
other products we looked at offered only a least common denominator," said
Linda Jojo, production systems program manager at General Electric Co.
"The key thing about being able to use Wind/U is that our database-access
application has a pretty compressed development cycle, yet we had to
deploy it on PCs and UNIX workstations simultaneously."

Thanks to IXI, Wind/U Customers Can Choose A Motif or Windows
Look-and-Feel

Bristol Technology is supporting IXI's Wintif, a new shared library that
replaces the Motif libraries, and gives a UNIX application a Windows
look-and-feel. Wind/U-ported applications are native Motif applications.
Now Wind/U customers can choose a Windows look-and-feel with the use of
IXI's Wintif developer's pack.

"Like Bristol, IXI also believes in providing customers the best of Windows
and UNIX," said Anil Malhotra, IXI's vice president of marketing. "Wintif
is IXI's Windows Friendly offering for developers, which gives businesses
a solution that will protect their investment in PC Windows hardware,
software, and training."

Company Information

Bristol Technology Inc. was founded in 1990 with the vision of developing
the Wind/U technology. Bristol is a leading developer of UNIX graphical
user interface development tools, such as HyperHelp, the on-line help
standard, and Xprinter, the PostScript and PCL language library. Bristol
is headquartered in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The company sells and
distributes software products worldwide through the Ridgefield, CT office
and other distribution partners.

IXI an independent business of the Santa Cruz operation, serves an
estimated 70% of the Motif market worldwide. IXI's X.desktop is the
world's leading UNIX desktop manager and is an integral part of the Motif
GUI supplied by IBM, Digital, SCO, NCR and Data General.

Presently in beta, Wind/U 2.0 will ship in the second quarter of 1994.
Wind/U is available on Sun SPARC, HP700, DEC Alpha, and RS/6000
workstations. The price for Wind/U 2.0 remains $9,950.
