Visual Edge Endorses Novell's AppWare

Support for AppWare Foundation API Strengthens Visual Edge's Aggressive
Cross-Platform Strategy

UIM/X Will Generate Platform-Independent Applications Using AppWare
Foundation Class Objects

Montreal, CANADA, March 16, 1994--Visual Edge Software Ltd. today announced
its support for Novell's AppWare Foundation. The AppWare Foundation
library joins the growing number of "best in class" third-party libraries
now supported by UIM/X--Visual Edge's market-leading Graphical User
Interface (GUI) builder. UIM/X's extended customization
capabilities--irnplemented with the Builder Engine architecture--enable
developers to fully integrate the third-party solutions best suited for
their application-specific needs. With this integration, Visual Edge
offers the only open systems approach to cross-platform development that
guarantees production-quality, style guide-compliant applications for
multiple platforms --a guarantee that emulation and other '"best common
denominator" approaches cannot give.

Developers can interactively create, modify, test and generate code for the
user interface portion of their cross-platform applications--using a
familiar drag-and-drop metaphor. This approach cuts costs and development
time drastically, enabling developers to increase their productivity and
decrease time to market.

"What you are getting as a result of this integration," said Mike Foody,
president of Visual Edge, "is a perfect pairing of the best user interface
technology with the best cross-platform API available today. The decision
to endorse the AppWare Foundation was a given, as the approach Novell has
taken to cross-platform development directly parallels our own strategy.
It is a perfect fit."

"The installed base of UIM/X--which constitutes approximately 75% of the
UNIX GUI builder market--will now have the opportunity to rapidly target
multiple platforms. Once UIM/X developers move to a target platform, they
enjoy all of the AppWare Foundation advantages, such as scalability, and
native look and feel," said Doug Donzelli, vice president of AppWare
Systems Group.

Key Benefits of UIM/X for AppWare Foundation

UIM/X for AppWare Foundation gives developers access to the full power of
UIM/X's object-oriented architecture to interactively build cross-platform
AppWare-based applications. The AppWare Foundation class objects are
integrated seamlessly within the UIM/X palette, enabling developers to
create production-quality applications for multiple platforms using all
the familiar productivity-enhancing features they have come to rely on
from the industry's leading GUI builder.

The AppWare Foundation consists of programming libraries and a
cross-platform application programming interface (API) for accessing
operating system, user interface and network connectivity services. UIM/X
supports 100% of the AppWare Foundation's user interface services,
enabling developers to write user interface code once--to a single
API--and then simply recompile it for deployment on multiple platforms.

Since UIM/X and the AppWare Foundation are fully compatible with a wide
range of third-party tools, investment is protected because developers are
not locked-in to a proprietary solution. And, because the AppWare
Foundation uses the native toolkit controls of the deployment platform,
the cross-platform applications generated are style guide-compliant, up to
performance standards, and capable of evolving with the native platform
operating system.

Scheduled for initial release in Q2 1994, UIM/X for AppWare Foundation will
support UnixWare, SunOS, Sun Solaris, and HP-UX, as well as code
deployment on Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh. Support for IBM AIX,
MS-Windows NT, MS-Windows 4.0 beta (Chicago) and OS/2 platforms is planned
for future releases. Packaged as an add-on to UIM/X, the AppWare
integration will be available through Visual Edge's standard distribution
channels, at a price yet to be determined.
