FORTRAN 90 Set for Third Quarter Delivery

Incline Village, Nevada, March 14, 1994- Lahey Computer Systems is pleased
to announce their FORTRAN 90 language system for the PC is now scheduled
for a '94 third quarter delivery. Lahey FORTRAN 90 is a 32-bit native
language system that is a complete implementation of the new FORTRAN 90
Standard. This product is the culmination of nearly twenty person-years
spread over a five year period .

Lahey FORTRAN 90 is designed for FORTRAN users who are using personal
computers with either 386, 486 or Intel Pentium processors. With the
FORTRAN 90 Standard being the FORTRAN 77 Standard, popular 77 extensions,
and a host of brand new FORTRAN features, there are reasons for every
FORTRAN programmer to begin using Lahey's 90 language system. Users can
still run all of their applications written in FORTRAN 77 and at the same
time begin writing new programs or fine-tuning legacy programs with 90
features. With Lahey FORTRAN 90, programmers can still take advantage of
Fortran's key strengths -- writing numerically intensive applications and
portability.

Lahey's Fortran 90 combines their new compiler front end technology with
Intel Corporation's highly optimized code generator. This new technology
has resulted in faster execution times than Lahey's 32-bit FORTRAN 77
language system, F77L-EM/32. Coupled with this new technology is a suite
of programming tools (editor, debugger/profiler, make utility, library
manager, video graphics) and the Phar Lap DOS-Extender. When using Lahey
Fortran 90, users will be able to write or port programs up to
4-GigaBytes. In contrast to Lahey's Fortran 90 language system, the other
competing Fortran 90 products are merely translators rather than native
compilers. These "translator" compilers convert your Fortran 90 code to C
or FORTRAN 77 code before compiling. This code is difficult to debug and
the user must rely on translator technology to correctly interpret the
original 90 code. Lahey's Fortran 90 design is not only more sound than
translator technology but will result in faster execution times than
competing FORTRAN 77 or Fortran 90 products.

Lahey expects to further improve the test results generated by their
Fortran 90 language system before they officially begin beta-testing the
product in the second quarter. Before the beta program begins, Lahey will
introduce Lahey Fortran 90 to prospective customers at Software
Development '94 in San Jose and during their European tour in May. Thomas
Lahey, President of Lahey, will give Fortran 90 talks and product
presentations in Vienna, Munich, Cologne, Copenhagen, Oslo, and London.
Product pricing will be available in May and system requirements in June.
