Franz Inc. Shows Advanced Object-Oriented Development Tools at Software
Development '94

Common Lisp Environments Offered for Unix and PCs

(March 14, 1994--San Jose, CA) Franz Inc. will show its complete line of
Common Lisp development tools to the programming community this week at
Software Development '94. Franz will be highlighting products based on
CLOS, the Common Lisp Object System, for advanced object-oriented
programming. Common Lisp allows developers to build more intelligent
applications in less time, by providing an interactive environment,
incremental compilation, automatic memory management, and integrated
debugging tools.

Franz will be demonstrating Allegro CL, a Common Lisp compiler, Allegro
Composer, a Lisp-based development environment, and CLIM, the Common Lisp
Interface Manager, for Unix workstations. Franz will also demonstrate
Allegro CL/PC, a full-featured and affordable development system for
Microsoft Windows.

"Awesome" Development Environment

Allegro CL/PC was recently awarded an Honorable Mention in the annual
StarTech Awards, sponsored by Windows Tech Journal. The March issue of the
magazine featured a review of the product, stating:

"Allegro CL/PC is intended for production use, and it's completely ready
for prime time. It is a complete, mature product based on the industry's
only standard OOP language, and the development environment is nothing
short of awesome... Allegro CL/PC offers speed, ease, and pleasure of
development far superior to anything you can get in the C++ world." --J.D.
Hildebrand, "Harness the Power of Objects" -- Windows Tech Journal, March
1994

Allegro CL/PC offers the same power as Common Lisp programming tools
previously available only on Unix workstations or specialized hardware.
Allegro CL/PC features a 32-bit native compiler, integrated development
environment, and complete ANSI standard CLOS (Common Lisp Object System).
Tools include text and structure editors, debugger, trace and step
facility, inspector, and a profiler. Allegro CL/PC also features Common
Graphics, a high-level window system built on top of the Microsoft Windows
API, DLL (Dynamic Link Library) support, and runtime generator.

Franz Inc. will also be showing a preliminary version of the interface
builder for Allegro CL/PC. This tool allows programmers to create
graphical applications quickly and easily. The interface builder will be
available with the next release of Allegro CL/PC later this year.

Allegro CL/PC is available directly from Franz, through international
distributors, or from catalogs such as Programmer' s Paradise, Programmer'
s Shop, and The Connection.

Truly Portable Applications

Franz Inc. also offers a complete set of development and user interface
management tools for Unix workstations, including Sun/SPARC, HP, IBM, and
Silicon Graphics. These tools allow programmers to rapidly develop and
deliver Common Lisp applications on any platform.

CLIM 2.0 allows developers to write applications that are truly window
system and toolkit independent, utilizing the same application interface
across platforms. CLIM is layered on top of the host window system, and
insulates the developer from the details and differences of the underlying
toolkits. CLIM applications automatically adopt the native look and feel
of the host window system, such as Motif, OpenLook, Apple Macintosh, and
others.

Allegro CL 4.2, Allegro Composer 2.0, and CLIM 2.0 are now shipping for
Sun/SPARC workstations. These products will be available soon for the HP
Series 700, IBM RS/6000 and Silicon Graphics.

Franz Inc. was founded in 1984 by affiliates of the Computer Science
Department at the University of California at Berkeley, including original
developers of Franz Lisp and BSD Unix. Allegro CL and companion products
are sold and supported world-wide through Franz' direct sales force and
distribution partners. Franz customers include universities, research
institutions, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies.
