What is AreaFix?

AreaFix is a program run on your MorrisNet/2! Hub/Host system that
controls the echo areas that your node/point receives. When you first
connect to MorrisNet/2!, you will only have the Netmail area turned
on. You need to send a netmail message to "AreaFix" @ 96:100/1 [or
your host address] to turn on your message areas.

PLEASE NOTE: This document is a general AreaFix help file, but does
contain some program-specific commands. Not all AreaFix's will have
all of these commands. Many of these commands are specific to
FastEcho's AreaFix, which is run on Bandersnatch BBS, MorrisNet/2!
  World Headquarters (96:100/1).

Why do I need AreaFix?

Because without it, your Hub/Host would have no way of knowing which
echoes you want to receive and which you would like to ignore.
Remember the required conferences! You Cannot Connect to MorrisNet/2!
unless you carry the following conferences: MNET_NEWS, MNET_GEN,
  MNET_SUGG, MNET_USER2MOD, and MNET_STAFF.

How Do I Use AreaFix?

I'm so glad you asked that.. :) Well, first you need to send a netmail
message to "AreaFix" @ 96:100/1 (or your hub/host's address.) The
  Commands follow...

AreaFix - Detailed Command Summary

Here's some help about how you can use AreaFix to change your echomail areas.
You just have to write a message to 'AreaFix' and tell AreaFix what he has to
do for you. (All Commands Are Given In this Sample Message)

Example:

 Msg : 13 of 23 Uns Pvt Loc K/s
 From : Tobias Burchhardt 2:243/5039 Wed 31 Dec 93 23:59
 To : AreaFix 2:243/5000
Subj : PASSWORD <- Your password
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 RA_UTIL <- Add (link) area

 -SYSOPS.024 <- Remove (unlink) area

U.ENG.* <- Add all areas beginning with U.ENG.
-F.???.COMP.* <- Remove all areas that match this pattern

 %RESCAN <- Rescan following area(s) and add if area(s)
                                 is/are not linked yet

 FASTECHO.GER

%DAYS 7 <- Rescan only messages not older than 7 days
  SHAREWRE

%MSGS 100 <- Rescan at most 100 messages each area
 FE_HELP

 * <- Add all areas available for you

-* <- Remove all linked areas

%QUERY <- Ask for your active areas

%INFO <- Ask for general information

 %LIST <- List available areas

%UNLINKED <- List available areas to which
                                 you are currently not linked.

%AVAIL <- List all areas that are available at
                                 this system's uplinks

%PAUSE <- If you go to holiday you can
                                 stop receiving echomail for that
                                 time without manually removing each
                                 area with '-AREANAME'.

%RESUME <- Switch echomail receiving ON again.

%NOTE <- Leave comment to sysop

%COMPRESS LHA <- Change your packer eg. to LHA

 %COMPRESS ? <- Send a list of available packers

%PWD password <- Change your AreaFix password

%PKTPWD password <- Change your ARCmail password

%HELP <- AreaFix will send you this help.

Instead of %QUERY, %INFO, %LIST, %UNLINKED, %AVAIL and %RESCAN, you can also
specify '-Q', '-I' , '-L', '-U', '-A' and '-R' as flags after the password.

Example: password -Q -L -A

Message To Sysops & Point Operators Regarding AreaFix

MorrisNet/2! Zone96 Admin would like it known that all sysops
and point operators (especially point operators) make use of the
%PAUSE and %RESUME features of AreaFix.

If you know that you are going to not poll for some time, due to
vacation or other forseeable event, please send a message to AreaFix
and suspend your mail delivery until you return. Otherwise,
packets will build up on your host/hub system and waste space.

When you return, send another message to AreaFix and %RESUME your Feed.
You May then do a %RESCAN and %DAYS #, where the # is the number of
 days your feed was suspended.

Point/Node packets that become to large may be deleted by Hub/Host
systems willfully and lawfully under MorrisNet/2! rules and
regulations. If a packet is deleted, you can recover the EchoMail, but
Netmail may be lost forever. Sysops of Host/Hub boards will not be
held accountable or responsible for packet deletion.

 Thank you For Your Time...
