EPSON DELIVERS BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE FOR WINDOWS USERS

BURLINGAME, Calif., June 8, 1992 -- The Epson 486/Wingine PC will be the
first to incorporate the 64200 Wingine Windows Accelerator from CHIPS and
Technologies. By optimizing the latest system technology, Epson has
created a new standard of value and performance for GUI applications.

The Wingine display controller provides a low-cost, system-level solution
for boosting the speed of Microsoft Windows applications. The result is
immediate response to mouse and keyboard commands, even at 1024x768
display resolution with refresh rates of up to 76 Hz. Building Wingine
into its PCs allows Epson to provide outstanding Windows performance at a
cost no higher than competitive models with Super VGA.

Steve Huey, vice president of Epson's PC and Solutions Business Unit, said,
"Our newest 486-based computer reflects the importance of value in today's
PC marketplace. The Wingine Accelerator is one of several technology
enhancements that will enable us to satisfy the demand for competitive
prices while exceeding customers' expectations for performance."

Users will notice a dramatically improved response to commands and higher
productivity when working in the Windows environment.

"Epson is showing leadership in designing what customers want, which is PCs
that are capable of running Windows and Windows applications faster," said
Brad Silverberg, vice president of Microsoft's Personal Systems Group.
"With the 486/Wingine PC, Epson has tuned both hardware and critical
software drivers to yield outstanding speed."

Cache-Like Performance Without A Cache

The Epson 486/Wingine PC has upgradeable architecture and VirtualCache, a
proprietary memory-access method that accesses standard DRAM as quickly as
comparable systems access a static-RAM cache. The result is cache-like
performance without the high cost of a cache. Graphics performance, in
particular, is enhanced due to the fact that graphic-intensive
applications require a high level of memory access.

Epson Product Manager Mark Vena said, "The powerful combination of Wingine
technology and VirtualCache architecture will allow us to offer the
486/Wingine PC in environments that have traditionally been the domain of
Apple Macintosh." The unit is ideally suited for environments where
productivity in desktop publishing or graphics is critical. Additional
applications include graphics-based spreadsheets, CAD/CAM and multimedia.
Further, fast processing and flexible expansion capabilities make the
486/Wingine PC attractive for networking or connectivity.

The Epson 486/Wingine PC comes with 4 MB of RAM (expandable to 68 MB on the
system board) and six expansion slots. A choice of three processor cards
provides 486SX/25, 486DX/33 or 486DX2 configuration. The 486SX and DX
cards have an Intel processor upgrade socket. Customers select the
processor card and have a choice among three drive configurations:
3.5-inch floppy, 5.25-inch floppy, or 3.5-inch floppy with a 240MB hard
drive. An additional enhancement is a 1 MB video RAM upgrade providing
resolutions of up to 1280x1024.

October Ship Date

A third quarter ship date is planned; manufacturer's suggested retail
prices will be announced at that time. Initially, Epson will bundle video
drivers for Microsoft Windows 3.1 that support the following resolution
modes: 640x480 (16/256 colors), 800x600 (16/256 colors) or 1024x768
(16/256 colors). Wingine driver support for OS/2 2.0 and popular MS-DOS
applications (WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3 and Harvard Graphics Manager) will
be available shortly after the initial shipment. Until then, MS-DOS
applications will be supported in standard VGA modes.
