New York--June 23, 1992--Reference Software International, the makers of
Grammatik grammar-checking software, introduces Random House Webster's
Electronic Dictionary and Thesaurus College Edition for Windows. Available
at a suggested retail price of $99, Random House Webster's Electronic for
Windows will be introduced at PC Expo in New York (Booth #3752). It has
been available for DOS since January.

The Windows version is the only electronic dictionary and thesaurus to
provide hotkey functions from any Windows application as well as direct
replacement of unlimited text into any Windows application, including word
processors, spreadsheets, databases and electronic mail.

Based on the 1,565-page Random House Webster's College Dictionary and the
812-page Random House Thesaurus College Edition, the Electronic Edition
holds over 180,000 definitions and 275,000 synonyms and antonyms. It is
the only electronic dictionary to contain biographical and geographical
information.

First to have toggle and browse features

Random House Webster' s is the first combined College dictionary and
thesaurus to allow users to toggle from word processor to dictionary to
thesaurus and back again. It also offers a Browse feature, which allows
the user to search one word at a time from any given letter combinations.
The History feature shows the previous 20 words looked up, with a "D" or
"T" next to each word, signifying Dictionary or Thesaurus. Other special
features include an anagram generator and a wildcard search for looking up
words where only part of the spelling is known, such as: "*ate" to get:
abate, abreviate, abdicate, and so on.

The most current words

The Dictionary is based on the Random House Webster's 1991 edition and has
been lauded for its up-to-the-minute inclusion of words and terms, such
as: GUI, Glass ceiling, Secondhand smoke and so on.

Requirements and availability

Random House Webster's Electronic supports all popular word processors. It
requires an IBM PC 286 or greater running MS Windows. The dictionary
requires 6.5 megabytes of hard disk space; the dictionary and thesaurus
together require 9.2 megabytes of hard disk space.
