IRVlNE, Calif. -- June 22, 1992 -- To strengthen its industry leadership
position in the portable computer market, the Computer Systems Division of
Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) today announced retail
price reductions ranging from 16 to 24 percent on its popular notebook
computer family, effective immediately. These price changes, in response
to recently announced competitive pricing actions, demonstrate Toshiba's
long-term strategy to provide the best price/performance value for
notebook computers in the market.

"We view these price reductions as an opportunity to demonstrate our
long-term commitment to the market and our customers. Additionally, we see
a distinct opportunity to increase our market share," said Steve Lair,
vice president of marketing for the Computer Systems Division. "We expect
to reach 18 percent share by the close of the year. Furthermore, we intend
to sustain our momentum by continuously bringing technological innovation
to the notebook arena."

Based on market share estimates from International Data Corporation (IDC),
Toshiba is the leading vendor in the U.S. market for portable computers,
holding 14.3 percent of the unit volume in 1991.

Products affected in the price reduction include the T2200SX notebook, the
industry's most award-winning notebook, and the T4400SXC, the market's
first 486SX TFT-LCD active matrix color notebook computer.

"As a result of the T4400SXC price reduction, the industry's best
combination of power and crisp TFT-LCD active matrix color is now
available to a broader base of professionals requiring a high performance
color platform," continued Lair. "Clearly, the 486SX is the right
processor for demanding color applications."
