Palo Alto, CA, May 18, 1992 -- Micro Focus is shipping Micro Focus Toolset
3.0, a set of program development productivity aids and utilities for
building and packaging COBOL applications. Toolset facilitates the
development of applications that are portable between DOS, Microsoft
Windows, and OS/2. Toolset also facilitates the programming of
applications designed for use on a network. Micro Focus Toolset can be
purchased either as an add-on to Micro Focus COBOL, or together with Micro
Focus COBOL as a combined product called Micro Focus Professional COBOL.
This release of the Micro Focus Toolset has been enhanced with a number of
features designed to ease development of industrial strength COBOL
applications.

Professional COBOL Menu System

This new menu-oriented environment makes moving between Toolset and COBOL
facilities quick and easy. All of the utilities and aids that comprise
Toolset and Micro Focus COBOL are usable through the menu system, in most
cases requiring only a keystroke or two for access. The system is easy to
learn and operate.

Fileshare Monitor Facility

The Fileshare Version 2 facility of Micro Focus Operating System Extensions
(OSX) gives users the ability to access and share files across a network.
The new Fileshare Monitor Facility gives a network supervisor the ability
to view and manage Fileshare V2 servers remotely. Designed to run on a
client machine, the Fileshare Monitor Facility gives the network
supervisor access to one or more server machines to display Fileshare V2
utilization figures, display active user details, display open file
details for all users, close open files, or log off users.

Lower Entry Price Point

With this release of the Toolset, Micro Focus has lowered the entry level
price for a COBOL development system. Now programmers can purchase a
complete COBOL development system optimized for multi-platform development
for under $1300.

Operating System Extensions

Toolset now comes bundled with one copy of the OSX product. OSX provides a
common set of operating facilities across multiple operating systems,
including DOS, Windows and OS/2. The facilities in OSX are documented as
part of Toolset, but are separately distributable as part of the user's
application systems. OSX creates a "level playing field" in which all
operating systems appear to an application to have the same facilities.
This means that applications developed on one system can be "ported" to
another, usually without code modifications.

On-line Help Development System

Toolset now provides development facilities for the On-line Help System.
Formerly a component of the Micro Focus Workbench product, this is a
sophisticated system for creating and displaying online help information.
The system includes extensive means for navigating through the available
information. The On-Line Help system supports a hypertext style of
navigating through help information, including hot-spots and linked
topics.

Tutorial Development System (Early Release)

The Micro Focus Tutorial Development System (an early release feature)
enables users to create on-line tutorials for applications with graphical
user interfaces built using Panels Version 2, a component of OSX, or Micro
Focus Dialog System. It is especially useful in introducing these
applications to new users. A tutorial displays text windows alongside the
application, plays back recorded action sequences to demonstrate
particular functions, and asks the user to perform actions in response to
prompts.

Additional Features

Toolset continues to offer the Micro Focus Program and Text Editor, an
advanced Run Time Environment (RTE), a mixed language debugger,
Application Packaging Aids and a Report Design and Generation Utility.
