ATLANTA (June 1, 1992) -- CASEWORKS, Inc., the leading developer of
graphical user interface design and code generation tools, has begun
shipping CASE:W 4.0 for Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC). CASE:W for MFC
is the only code generator that produces code for the recently released
Microsoft Foundation Class Library for C/C++ 7.0.

The Microsoft Foundation Classes are class libraries of Windows interface
and system objects used with Microsoft's C/C++ 7.0 compiler to build the
Windows interface portion of applications. Class libraries provide
standard, predefined objects that can be re-used, allowing developers to
work at a code level higher than the Windows C API. MFC replaces the
Windows C API in Windows applications.

"Programmers who use MFC to build Windows applications are challenged by a
different programming methodology," said Terry Flaherty, vice president of
marketing for CASEWORKS. "In addition to learning a new class library API,
they also must master programming with objects. CASE:W for MFC delivers
two unique advantages to Windows developers using C/C++ 7.0. First, it is
an instructional tool that lets developers new to object programming
experiment with various Windows interfaces, and examine the generated code
to learn MFC programming. Second, it is a productivity tool that generates
high quality MFC source code faster than programmers could write it
themselves," Flaherty added.

In addition to MFC, CASE:W 4.0 also supports the two other leading Windows
GUI APIs -- Windows C API and Borland's ObjectWindows. CASE:W is the only
tool with a modular architecture that enables developers to generate code
for one environment and then "snap-on" any one of several language
knowledgebases and generate again to create the same interface in a
different language.

Knowledgebases contain the implementation details required for programming
Windows applications in a language and API. For example, developers
working in CASE:W 4.0 for C can generate code for the Windows C API or
"snapon" a MFC or ObjectWindows knowledgebase to generate ObjectWindows or
MFC class library code for the same application interface. This capability
is especially important when developers migrate from C to C++ and class
libraries, and as developers evaluate each of the class libraries.

Unlike the Windows C API, which can be used with different compilers, both
the Microsoft Foundation Classes and ObjectWindows class libraries require
vendor-specific compilers. Once developers begin building applications
with one class library, it is difficult to switch to another without
rewriting the entire interface layer.

"Developers in the C++ compiler and class library arena are caught in a war
over which approach to use," explained Flaherty. "CASE:W's snap-on
capabilities eliminate the risk of selecting the wrong class library. With
CASE:W, developers can generate code for the Windows C API or either of
the class libraries. Once they have completed that work, they can
'snap-on' a new knowledgebase and generate the code again in a different
class library."

In addition to shipping CASE:W 4.0 for MFC, CASEWORKS also is shipping
CASE:W 4.0 upgrades for its C and ObjectWindows knowledgebases. CASE:W
4.0, which includes the buyer's choice of a knowledgebase for MFC, C or
ObjectWindows, has a list price of $995. Existing CASE:W customers can
upgrade to CASE:W 4.0 for $249. Snap-on knowledgebases for C,
ObjectWindows and MFC have a list price of $395.

CASE:W 4.0 is the latest version of CASEWORKS' leading Windows development
tool. CASEWORKS other versions of CASE:W include QuickCASE:W, which is
bundled with the Microsoft QuickC for Windows compiler; CASE:W for XVT,
which generates to the XVT Corporation's XVT cross platform GUI API; and
CASE:W for CommonView. CASEWORKS also markets a family of Presentation
Manager development tools for IBM's OS/2 2.0.

Founded in 1988, CASEWORKS, Inc. is a privately held company that develops
knowledge-based software development tools for GUI and Client/Server
applications that run under IBM's OS/2 Presentation Manager, Microsoft
Windows and other graphical user interface environments. CASEWORKS has
more than 60,000 products installed with more than 7,000 customers. For
