Adobe Systems Announces Plans To Offer New Emulation Software and Expanded
Font Format Support

Mountain View, Calif., ( June 1, 1992) - Adobe Systems Incorporated today
announced plans to offer PCL 5 emulation software and support for the
Intellifont font format as options for Its OEMs to Incorporate In future
PostScript printers. These options will enable future PostScript printers
to print any document produced In the PC and Macintosh environments
regardless of whether the document uses Adobe's PostScript software or PCL
5, or contains Adobe's Type 1, TrueType or Intellifont fonts.

"The new emulation software and font rasterizers are Important In the
heterogeneous computing networks so common In today's offices, where
potential complications surround the printing from different
page-description languages and font formats," said Steve MacDonald, senior
vice president, general manager, Systems Products Division, Adobe Systems
Incorporated. "Adding these capabilities to PostScript printers ensures
that our OEMs' products will print any document, from any computer, in any
system environment. This continues to make PostScript language printing
the simplest, most reliable alternative for the user."

PCL 5 is the latest version of Hewlett Packard's printer command language.
Adobe has previously offered PCL 4 and HPGL emulation to its OEMs for
inclusion in PostScript printers. Intellifont is the outline type format
supported In PCL 5. Adobe's PCL 5 emulation software uses resident Type 1
font derivatives that have the same metrics as the Intellifont originals.
The Interpreter will also accept Intellifont typefaces Installed by end
users.
